Help.....looking For A Particular Jig Mold

Recommended Posts

Gentlemen,

Does anyone know of a mold out their similar to the Jewels Finnese Jig.  To explain what I'm looking for....It is where the lead is extended down the shank of the hook behind the head to give it a more horizontal drop/fall in the water.  I have Do-It's weedless jig mold in the 5/16, 3/8, 7/16 model and I really don't care to try and modify it(I kinda suck at that; been there done that).  Thanks.

See how that collar is a little thicker and protrudes further down the hook shank....this is what I would like to achieve.  If you have ever fished this particular Jewel jig it does well!  And if you ever watch it in the water it does have a more horizontal fall and I believe that trait is what makes it so deadly at times.

I think do its poison tail jig mold is a nice mold and would probably fall more horizontal as you want. Certainly has more lead out on the shank with the two barbs. The other thing is you can really dress the head up, if you want. Eyes highlights, epoxy or you can powder coat and be done with it.

The weedless jig mold is what I use to make the Eakins style jigs, by itself it is different but then you add a craw trailer and a cropped skirt you get the same effect.  If the jig doesn't have to be exact then Apdriver is spot on, the poison tail will work for you as it falls almost horizontally and you don't have you use the EWG hook as there is a round bend that will fit.

There is a way you can get your mold to work, I'm not sure if you are painting these or tying skirts on them or not but I have a solution. Buy some lead golf tape or Storm Suspend dots or strips, they are small pieces of lead tape. What you do is place some of the tape or the dots down on the collar of your jig and then see how much tape or how many dots it takes to get the fall you want. I've used these in the past to make a 1/4oz jig a 5/16oz and they worked well and what you want to do isn't going to take much weight because you probably only need 1/16oz or less on the collar but again, I have no idea if you are using a bare jig or if you are painting them or using a skirt with it.
