Bbob
I've seen rodent lures that have hair on them. How is this accomplished?
Nathan
Use zonker strips and wrap them on your lure frame..Nathan
mark poulson
What width strips do you use Nate?
Bbob
So you seal the body and duper glue the strips? Super glue is what I meant
Nathan
Mark, They are the 1/8th in. Bbob..super glue will work fine..Nathan
RayburnGuy
Maybe it's just my warped mind, but after reading this thread I can just see someone skinning a rat and gluing the hide on a bait. Ben

RayburnGuy
You first! All it would take is to catch some fish on a "rat hide" bait and there would be a rush to the hardware store to buy rat traps. Ben
Bbob
Do you run them parallel or wrap them around?
Vodkaman
Plenty of rats here, but none in my new house so far (rental). In my last house it was a daily battle. I even had to block the toilet, as that is how they were getting in. I am still trying to design the perfect rat trap. The specification is that it must reset itself, choice of humane or kill and sneaky enough to fool the big mommas. If I crack the trap, I could become the official TU supplier of cured rat skins Dave
mark poulson
Use peanut butter as bait on your traps, and you'll never run out of rat pelts!
Vodkaman
Yes, peanut butter is a very good bait and I have used it with success. The problem is that the BIG rats are very wary, that is how they became big. They hold back while the younger rats explore the new food source and get trapped. There are plenty of videos on YouTube that demonstrate the wise big rat caution. Man, I could tell you some rat stories that will make your toes curl. JRammit
We have 2 highly efficient mouse traps! They are not exactly humane... But they do dispose of and recycle the carcasses No reset needed... They run off of meow mix
mark poulson
Dave, My mom grew up in Detroit in the 20's and 30's. She used to tell stories about rats so big down at the docks that people moved to the other side of the street when they saw them. Cats and dogs avoided them. Vodkaman
Mark - it was like that here when I was living in the kampung, which is basically close/crowded housing for poor people. The houses crowd a warren of alley ways, as no one owns a car anyway. The accumulation and careless management of rubbish, low standard drainage, provides plenty of food and shelter for a population of rats. I was stuck in such accommodation for two years and it is such a relief to finally escape. This is the second time I have gone from wealth to poverty, it certainly makes you appreciate the good times. Dave
Ichthus
I like using pellet guns for getting rats. Living in suburban California, you can't exactly break out the .22 when you see them in the trees lol. I've heard chocolate works really well and I've done well with peanut butter and chocolate syrup.

Bbob
My dad tells of the story of when he lived in detroit and the lake was so polluted that the rats could run across on the garbage. He said tha one day he came home from school and there was a note on the faucet that told him not to drink the water. Then came the zebra mussels

Ichthus
Speaking of " critters" I'm working on a bait with feathers but I'm coating the feathers with a "permadry" hydrophobic coat just like when the feathers are on the bird. So, we'll see how that goes lol.

jonister
You guys are gross. i guess i cant talk, i tan moles for fly tieing. every time i see a new mound in the yard it becomes an obsession to get the little guy, not because of the mounds but because i want the hide! hahaha! id have to wonder though how you would go about tanning the pelt without it re-absorbing water. i still am working on that part.
