gliders
Hey guys, been messing about with transfer foils as used for nails etc. I wasn't too happy with recommended p.v.a type glues so started experimenting with others .found that a smooth surface crucial for even finish and came up with this.-coat with e-tex , rotate for 7 hours , apply foil with cloth.no seams, coat again , paint.Very handy as I e-tex prior to painting anyway.these are 8inch holo silver, hope o.k to show here to give idea of finish

AZ Fisher
I also ordered foils from a nail art place. They had a great selection of cool foils to choose from. The main drawback is the foil comes in strips only one inch wide by five feet long. Each strip costing only one dollar each. Now this works on smaller and very thin baits and some spoons and blades, but on larger baits you'll have to use two pieces and line them up. Can be tough to get them lined up just right. In one of the posts on here about foiling there was a link to Stampeecrafts.com. I placed an order with them last week but have not received it yet. Stampee's foils come 4.75 inches wide by five feet long for 4.95. Stampee's selection of colors and styles was only about ten percent of the nail art place. I ordered about 20 different styles from the nail art place and they are cool! Holographics, metallics and some unique ones like checkerboard, they have a killer selection but again only one inch wide. I only ordered four types from Stampeecrafts because of their limited selection. I should get the order in the next few days and I'll repost and tell you what they are like. Good lookin baits Glider! Keep it up!

hazmail
Very nice lures 'Gliders', can you tell us what you use as a ''primer'' on top of the foil and under your top coat --I have tried this and with a small knock the top coat is chipping off (not sticking to foil). RayburnGuy
Is there a difference, or advantage, to using E-tex compared to other epoxies such as D2T or BS? I've used the 30 minute epoxies when foiling baits, both as an undercoat and top coat, and had absolutely no problems. Ben
gliders
The reason I use etex is it gives is first I use it as undercoat anyway and it gives me a window of about an hour where it is tacky enough to grab the finish from the backing, say between 7 and 8 hours.put some epoxy on scrap wood at same time as lure and you can keep checking with foi till correct timing. gliders
Dale, can get nail transfer foil 40mm wide on rolls no prob, stuff I used was 4 inch wide which is good for big lures, I mostly use aluminium foil but transfer foils available in big array of effects and can cover all lure with no seams.cheers though. AZ Fisher
Has anyone ordered foil from Stampee before? I ordered on Sept 7, have not received anything yet and four emails to them have gone unreturned. Three weeks and not a word. I guess I'll have to take it up with Pay-Pal. Ordered for Kingsley on Flea-bay last week, should be here tomorrow.
TheHammer
Can the nail foil tape be applied over netting and rubbed to emboss the scale pattern on it? Thanks!
gliders
Did think of that but highly unlikely to work, the mesh will stick, and the foil really has to go on smooth surface, it would not give neat scale.I did toy with idea of spraying contact adhesive through mesh , remove mesh then apply foil.not tried it but suspect it might look a bit rough. AZ Fisher
Never received my order from Stampee. Six emails not returned. Filed a claim thru Pay-Pal and was found in my favor with no explanation. Haven't got my CC statement yet to see if the $ has been refunded. Sorry, I know this is an old post. Question when you place the nail art film on the tacky surface, do you peel off the cover film right away or do you let everything sit until the etex is fully cured? gliders
Hi j, rip the backing off straight away, This gives time to re do any bits you miss....glider
jcool3
Thanks. I am foiling lead jigs. Although I have 1 or 2 layers of etex already primed on the lead, the bond between etex and lead is not that great. Previous attempts at foiling have pulled some of the earlier layers of etex right off the lead. I will see if I can get your method to work. gliders
I've never applied e-tex to lead j , imagine you would need to scuff or score for e.tex to key ? good luck...
woodieb8
we have had mixed results with foils.as hazmail stated. if we need to put several coats over it sometimes the weight will affect bait action in water.. love the looks hate results after a few fish.
