Jig Man
I have the Mustad 32798NPBN. It is about time to reorder and I'm wondering if the Eagle Claw L2798 is similar and would be a good alternative seeing the price difference. These are for personal use and for friends only. Big-D
The Eagle Claw is a much better hook. The quality control is much better and the hooks are sharper right out of the box, I have changed over to all the newer EC hooks that mimic the Mustad numbers. Try them, You won't be disappointed. Just my $.02.
wootonc
Like Big-D said the EC is better the last bunch of 1000 box of mustad 32798 that I bought you could rub your fingers down the sides and feel a groove in them then you could bend them and break them with your fingers. I really like the Eagle Claws.
Jig Man
Thanks guys. I have been using some EC hooks in the last year or so and like them but not familiar with those. I just hated to order 1000 and then them not be what I wanted. I may not live long enough to use up 1000 of them but I'm sure going to try. I'll order them from Shorty's Monday. smalljaw
If you don't like them I'll be happy to take some off of your hands. The only Mustad's I use are the 32786 in a 1/0 because the Eagle Claw 786BP can't be purchased on a 1/0 or I'd use it. I started using the BP series 4 or 5 years ago, I got a small sample of the L111BP EWG flipping style hook, it was awesome so I got some 2798BP for shaky heads and sent a bunch out to different people to try and it was a 100% good feedback. I'm glad this happened because Mustad was the best bang for buck hook and my personal favorite and then the consistency started getting shaky as I was getting bad hooks when I use to get zero. It was then I found out Mustad moved their facility to China, and it doesn't matter to me as a lot of places did that but still used their own QC and materials. Not that Mustad is making bad hooks, but the Eagle Claw BP series seem to be sharper and they also hold the point longer, and when they started making the 500BP Lil Nasty, that really changed the game. I like the Matzuo sickle hooks but I get a good amount of bad ones and some times the good ones will break but the Eagle Claw Lil Nasty is wicked sharp like the Matzuo but the wire is also noticeable stronger, I apologize for the long winded answer but over the last 6 years or so Eagle Claw hooks have been really impressive and I wanted to tell you that I've used most of them, both the 2798 and the 2706 are killer flat eye hooks and I'd be willing to bet you'll like them. LimpNoodle
I'll agree that the Eagle Claw BP series are some awesome hooks. I'll use them over Mustad every chance I get. I've been playing with the VMC Barbarian hooks the past month. They are a great hook too. Since Eagle Claw doesn't make a good 90° bend hook in the BP series those VMC hooks work great. Looking forward to see if the new Do-It tear drop mold will work with the barbarians.
smalljaw
Don't you like the L570BP or the 500BP (sickle) ?? I wasn't thrilled when I tried the 570BP but when I found there was a laser sharp version I went and tried that and it is fantastic but these are all Aberdeen style hooks. The only good heavy hook 90 degree is the Trokar TK-840, I use those and the Owner 5313 when I need a heavy wire 90 degree hook otherwise the L570BP and the 500BP work fine. I do agree though, the VMC Barbarian is a great hook and often overlooked, I love the Barbarian out barb trebles and the 7250 spinnerbait hooks as well. Jig Man
I'm only ordering the 4/0. smalljaw are you interested in any of them? If so how many?

The L570BP is my go to hook when I need a Aberdeen hook. However most all my fishing is for hybrid and striped bass so a Aberdeen hook really doesn't do it most of the time. cadman
My preference along with others now is Eagle Claw. Unless there is a hook that Eagle Claw does not make or have a size of, I will then go back to Mustad. You can't beat those Eagle Claw prices though.
