Louviere83
Can someone explain the reason for a lacquered blade? I bought some and there not real shiny.
Basseducer
They usually lacquer brass to keep it from tarnishing. The really pretty shiny ones are usually gold plated
smalljaw
Yep, it keeps the brass from tarnishing, but you can buy polished brass blades which are also lacquer coated but have a high shine but you do pay more.
Louviere83
Where can I find polished brass blades that are lacquered?
cadman
I believe Lakeland or Hagens has some. Also if you can't find them lacquered, you can do that yourself with D2T or E-Tex. Note lacquered blades will be slightly heavier.
Basseducer
Hagen's lacquered brass is a shiny pale yellow, not the deep gold and is considered a special order and they don't let you return it.
mark poulson
Is there a clear lacquer paint available to coat your own blades?
Musky Glenn
They have a watered down version that works nicely in a spray bomb can or you can get the good stuff in quarts at auto paint stores. I understand that it is different than the lacquer used on furniture. Musky Glenn
SNOWMAN CUSTOM BAITS
I use polytranspar wet look competition gloss laquer. You can get it in a spray can or for your airbrush. You can get it from taxidermy supply store.
