Benzin555
Anyone know of any good flat matte clear coat options that can be used on crankbaits. I have a pattern that I think would benefit from a flat look rather than a deep high gloss that you get from etex or typical two part epoxy. Thanks!!! mark poulson
Concrete sealer are available in low gloss. Be aware that the film will not be as strong. The molecular bonding that produces gloss is much stronger than for a matte finish. Some people dull down the gloss with Scotchbrite pads.
joetheplumber
I read somewhere that you can use Plasti Dip matte clear and it works okay but I can't confirm how well it works because I haven't ever used it myself.
Nathan
Plastic dip in the clear will work.Very thick tough stuff and will leave your bait with a rubbery feel...Nathan
Cougarftd
Plasti-Dip Is what I use...it is a rubbery feel which is not a bad thing...some of the lucky craft have a similar coat on their matte finish baits...very durable

Nathan
You dip it...they also have a spray on version..Nathan
mark poulson
I tried the spray on clear. It doesn't like to be touched by plastisol.
Cougarftd
I use the spray version
TrophyFishR
How many coats of the spray on plasti dip? I tried a single coat on a WW last year & the matte finish was very impressive. I dont know how it holds up banging the rocks like D2T
mark poulson
I sprayed it over a clear coat to achieve a soft texture, not as a finish.
TrophyFishR
I sprayed it over a clear coat to achieve a soft texture, not as a finish. So I can't airbrush the lure then spray plasti dip & go fishing? Should I be spraying over D2T I'm looking for matte finish & I just need advice on which product is best. Thanks
Nathan
If you dip plastic dip..one dip will do...if you use the spray on .. I would recommend two coats..Nate
TrophyFishR
Nathan, So I can use plasti dip right on top of the createx? That's kinda what I'm hoping. I will try 2 coats of the spray. Thanks
Nathan
I've never tried it over createx?..if nothing else a of a thin coat of createx clear may help if there is a problem..Nathan
TrophyFishR
Nathan, Basically I can use plasti dip as my clearcoat vs doing D2T then adding plasti dip? Im trying to skip the clearcoat & use straight plasti dip. thanks

Musky Glenn
Did I read somewhere that flat and high gloss both look about the same under water. Or am I just completely wrong. Musky Glenn
Nathan
If you put a gloss bait and a flat coat bait underwater you can't tell the difference Musky Glenn.I've just messed around with both the plastic dip " dip" and spray not for the flat finish but because it is tough stuff and has a rubbery feel to it..Nathan
