TrophyFishR
Okay, I got to throw my rock crawler with PD today, it peels kinda bad. I used 3 coats of spray. Do I need to buy the dip can instead?
Cougarftd
Was it shaken well when you sprayed? Reason being....I use that a lot (spray) and have not had a peeling issue. In addition I know of guys that have used it to prevent stone chips on car hoods and is has not peeled. I usually do 3 coats as well
TrophyFishR
I shook the can for 60-90 seconds & warmed my garage up to 72 degrees prior to spraying. I think the coats were too thin or maybe 2 coats isnt enough. Overall, I really like the product & ease of use. Basically the hook rash was gnarly, but the other parts of the bait were fine. I landed a 10lb striper on that Rock Crawler, so its no big deal to the fish.
mark poulson
You can try coating the hook rash area with clear nail polish first, and the spraying on the Plasti Dip. That way, if the hooks rub off the dip in certain areas, your paint job and bait are still protected. I used it over an already top coated swimbait, to give it a softer texture, ala Butch Brown's glide baits. TrophyFishR
I'm going to clearcoat the bait with Etex as usual. Then spray the PD on top after a few days & do multiple coats of PD over the Etex. Honestly the gnarly peeling rubber coat looks like crawfish skin, it's weird

Does the dip peel after it's been cut by the hooks, or does it still adhere to the bait where it's not cut?

Keep in my that I sprayed 2 coats & it recommends 3-4 coats. So I kinda screwed the pooch on that deal
