cm10lber
I have scanned the posts and if I this has already been answered then I missed it and I apologize but are 2 coats a requirement for coating when finished with the painting? Ive been applying 1 coat of Devcon 2T as of now. If 2 coats is whats best I can always add another coat. Thanks in advance
RayburnGuy
Things like the size of the lure and what game fish your after play a role in determining this. Epoxy can add a lot of weight to a small lure and this extra weight dampens the action. For bass lures one coat is plenty in my opinion. That is unless it's something close to the size of a 0.5 crank. A 0.5 sized crank will still work, but it will sit much lower in the water and take away some of the action as well. For baits this size I use DN S 81 moisture cure. hope this helps, Ben

BobP
I think one coat is plenty if you're topcoating a bass bait with D2T. If you're using a different brand of epoxy like Envirotex Lite, you'd probably want several coats but Devcon or other "glue designed" epoxies are thicker.

JRammit
Another reason for a second coat is if you are clumsy and drop the lure on the floor while the first is drying

Ive done that a few times already.. Vodkaman
The first bait that I painted, I did not include eyes as I thought it a minor detail - I was so very wrong. Dave
aulrich
I can say for sure with toothy critters like pike one coat of Etex is not enough I was very disappointed to have great chunks of topcoat and paint come off my new baits, one coat of D2T is OK. though it seem to be much easier to get wonkey thickness especially if you are like me and push pot times.
