cadman
Bob - this is the stepper that I used: Makrak 3981.jpg Ted - no macro, no matter how much money you throw will get you hairy legs. Anyone who uses a macro for the first time is going to be disappointed. They will probably think 'should have got the big name or longer lens or ....'. The fact is, it would have made very little difference. A macro lens allows you to reach 1:1 magnification, rarely any more. To achieve a 1:1 pic, you must be at minimum focus distance. For a short lens, this is very close to the subject. With a 105mm lens (mine), the minimum focus is further away, but still only 1:1. The 105 just means that I can be further away to get the same shot. At minimum focus length, the depth of field or the slice of the subject considered to be in focus, will be about 0.5mm. This means the photographing a house fly, you can get half of one eye or the mouth parts or a bit of one leg or a slice of abdomen. Focus in macro is an illusion. You fool the viewer into believing he/she is looking at a perfectly focused close up, but with smart positioning of the camera, still all you are able to give is half an eyeball, a piece of leg, slice of body and an antenna tip. Ants are a nightmare for macro, take a look at this: ant redhead 4818.JPG I got the eye, mouth parts and a couple of leg segments in focus, to fool you into believing the whole ant is in focus. Of course, you will see that it is not as we are talking about the subject. I very rarely go that close. I prefer to shoot from slightly further back, get a deeper depth of field and then crop the image close for a close-up effect. Dave Thanks for the mini tutorial Dave. I have a long way to go with my photography.

topwatersniper
I work as a breadman 60 hours a week And support a wife a 4 kids, so free time is a premium. That being said, over the past 2 years I've made from scratch...a chess set, a 4 foot rc pt boat, a naval strategy board game, and now homemade lures. I also paint ww2 aviation and naval subjects. In july 2007, fishing facts magazine used a bass painting of mine for their cover...a proud moment indeed , considering I would pour over that magazine as a kid who longed to go fishing...cheers to all you creators! SW Lures
Wow....didn't think of you people as being so diversified. I'm a sports nut and a outdoor enthusiast, that simple. Enjoy golf (being with friends), children participating in sports (coaching them) my playing days are over, after them it's fishing....fishing.....fishing!!! Through all I have done, fishing was always in the mix. From a very young age. Dale
Vodkaman
I keep thinking of more stuff: I played county soccer until 16 and also played in a table tennis league. I did gymnastics and was school high jump champion. I was very competitive as a kid, which caused problems. What was I supposed to do, lose on purpose! JRammit
Dave, i played soccer too, all through elementary school.. I wanted to play football, buy my parents couldnt afford it... In jr high, the school paid for football, so my soccer "career" was over...... Competitive? Ha! Our team sucked, we never won a game Dale, youre living a little dream of mine!.. Ive always wanted to try coaching kids football, even wrote my own playbook one year I had a cool idea last year at Christmas.. For one of my youngest sons presents i wrapped up a bundle of 6' x 2" PVC pipe.. It stood taller than the tree, and he was dying to know what it was.... Should have seen his face when he opened it!.... "Pipes dad???"..... I also made a card and attatched it to the gift, but you know how kids are with cards..... "Read the card"...... The card was my hand drawn "blue prints" for two 10' x 6' goal posts, and in another box were 2 sets of endzone pylons...... He got a real football field for Christmas! We built the goal posts and concreted them in the ground together.. And i mowed the sidelines and endzones down If this was in my yard as a kid, my mom would have had to stock up on koolaid, cause the whole neighborhood would have been at my house!..... But i guess kids these days are hypnotized by video games, cause the field went virtually unnoticed..... Weve had a few small games on it, and he's out there almost every day pretending to win the Superbowl.. So i guess it was a success Heres a little video clip of him i made last summer Ethan field goal:
SW Lures
Big, Big Fun. What's really satisfying is when they grow up and they tell you that you were important in their life and their sport life. Life is the most satisfying to me. Vodkaman
Gone2long - real shame about your truck, but the video is top quality. gone2long
Not to go too far off topic but I'm using a G4 3 axis gimbal that is the smoothness part and that's shot at 1080p/60fps with no filter, with the filter on the glare would have been reduced - been having a lot of fun though and now that winter is approaching I hope to share with you guys some of my latest work i.e. been making larger muskie/salt water baits hope to do some decent video on it, hence the chasing of trains to gain a little more insight on the camera. Oh and just got the offer for my truck came in at $2800 and I get to keep the truck which was important as I put a new remanufactured motor and trans 3-4 years ago! fishon-son
I used to collect old sports cards. Still have a nice rookie Mays and decent rookies of Koufax and Mantle. Even thought about opening a shop at one time, but glad I didn't because that craze is virtually gone now. Also, sport and muscle cars have always been a passion of mine. Love old Challengers, Vettes, and Trans Ams. Currently have a 2000 Mustang GT that's......ummm......not so street legal. lol Nowadays, I'd have to say my latest hobby is smoking meats. Just got into it this last spring when a buddy of mine built me a 50-gallon drum. Smoke 'em if you got 'em! I have a friend that smokes meats ,turkeys ,ducks, chickens ,ribs..and dam carp...that's right carp...im not a fish eater but love to fish . and i'll say the little taste I had wasn't bad...just hope the silver carp out there in the Midwest states catches on for eating..boy we are in trouble if not.. Trout is full of bones (especially small stockers) and they make a fine meal! Better question... How do you get past the bland rubber taste??...... Curt - NC
I have recently (during the last 6 moths or so) gotten into photography and photo editing. Nothing too fancy with the photos. I use my smartphone for most of them. But the editing and tweaking end of it has really become fun. I actually setup a website for it at http://www.phototweaks.com, to showcase my work and make it available so others can pay a small fee for me to enhance their photos too. Can't say that I was ever interested in golf. Oh, and I recently bought a drone, so I'm learning how not to crash it and how to keep it out of treetops I'm hoping to use the drone to get some cool photos and video once I learn how to fly it better Here's a short video of my maiden flight a few weeks ago: https://youtu.be/g37GrdTAUr8 Nothing fancy. But I was happy that I didn't crash!

JRammit
Oh, and I recently bought a drone, so I'm learning how not to crash it and how to keep it out of treetops Ha!... That's funny!... My son got a drone for Christmas, but he was busy playing new video games, so i took the drone out for its first flight... Those things go high!... So high i couldnt tell if i was making it fly back to me or towards the neighbors tree.... I found out when i brought it down and it landed in the tree
gone2long
Not sure what you mean by Jello effect. You wanna expound on that one for me?? Sure often with a gimbal on your drone you get that wavy "jello" affect while recording from a drone platform it was really evident at around 17 seconds in your test video. ND filters help correct this, there are other factors that may be in play but this often can reduce or eliminate the issue. High frame rates will also cause this as well. side by side example: this is just a reference video to show the effect of "jello" as you can see you may be able to correct in post but it is much better to eliminate before you even get to post and not have an artificial look to your videos.
