cm10lber
Can you add glitter to envirotek lite when topcoating like you can with DT2?
gliders
There is no problem mixing glitter in e.tex if thats what you mean
mark poulson
Any glitter that worked for you with D2T should work with E tex, since they both have the same solvent. If you are turning your coated baits you may find the glitter migrates to the outer face. I would do a test with an old bait to see how it works. I always put two coats on when I used E tex, so you might be able to use it in the first coat, and then have the second coat smooth it out again. gliders
Marks spot on about migration, glitter travels round blank on eyes etc.one way I avoid this is to sprinkle glittter on place's you want it when partiality cured , say 5 hours. Then coat again for smooth finish.
Hughesy
I shoot a clear waterbase polyurethane on the lure. While it is still wet, I sprinkle on the flake. Let the polyurethane dry and you can clear coat with your favorite epoxy. The dried polyurethane holds the glitter in place and leaves a smooth finish with epoxy. Also with the waterbase, if you dont like the way the glitter looks you can wipe it off (while its wet) and try again.
RayburnGuy
I do pretty much the same thing as Hughesy except I use Createx clear which I believe is also water based. After heat setting the Createx clear I top coat with either epoxy or DN moisture cure. Ben
cm10lber
Do you find that you have "heavy" spots of glitter when you sprinkle it on. The one thing I like when adding it to epoxy is that it is mixed into the epoxy and is dispursed randomly but yet not spotty if that makes sense. I would think that sprinkling it would increase the risk of heavy spots.
Hughesy
If you hold the lure about a foot away when you sprinkle you won't have the problem of spots. Let the flake slowly float down and it spreads pretty even. Like I said before, if you don't like the way the flake looks, wipe it off and fix it. Also, mixing it with the clear coat will only work if you are flaking the whole lure. What if you just want it on the belly or sides. I guess you would have to mix clear with flake and without. You won't get a smooth finish with flake in the clear coat. Some will rise up and stick out of the clear.
Vodkaman
There are glitter spray guns out there specifically for the purpose. Dave
BobP
I think some of this depends on the size of the glitter you are using. I use 'medium' sized glitter that is too large to pass through an airbrush, so I buy glitter that is suspended in a water based acrylic medium, cheap at your local craft store. I thin it with a little water and simply brush it on areas of the lure where I want it, in the amounts I want. The brush makes the glitter lay down so no problems with glitter sticking up in the clearcoat.
Fish_Hacker
You can get one of those bigger Harbor Freight HVLP guns and spray it if you are doing a bunch at a time. http://www.harborfreight.com/lightweight-high-pressure-spray-gun-93205.html or this one http://www.harborfreight.com/20-oz-high-volume-low-pressure-gravity-feed-spray-gun-47016.html
mohawkman
I've used my Paasche H to spray glitter. Mixed it with thinned Createx gloss top coat and worked very well. I was using a larger craft glitter and it didn't clog up like I assumed it would.
Vodkaman
I think a simple home made contraption would work. I am thinking a small mustard jar for the reservoir. 1/4" dia pipe in, to disturb the glitter and a 1/8" dia pipe as the spray nozzle. No compressors, simply blow. mark poulson
You can also add glitter/flake to clear nail polish, and brush it onto wherever you want it. Just be sure to shake it well to keep the flake in suspension. It dries quickly, and you can epoxy over it afterwards. And you have no waste. I keep a bottle with red flake, and another with blue flake, on my workbench, and use it to add flake to jig heads.
gliders
I generally just take very small pinch and rub between thumb and finger from ten inch above onto semi cured e-tex , then next coat ensures smooth finish.
gliders
Forgot to add, I wear disposable glove to avoid contaminating glitter.
TrophyFishR
I bought the salt & pepper style shakers of glitter from hobby lobby. Just sprinkle a little bit into your expoxy right after mixing. A little bit goes a long way. So less is more.
TrophyFishR
I tried this over wet Plasti Dip & the learning curve on free falling flakes was a little harder than expected. I didnt watch how much was pouring out of the shaker when I tapped it. But a mistake like that turns to new discoveries.
RayburnGuy
I tried this over wet Plasti Dip & the learning curve on free falling flakes was a little harder than expected. I didnt watch how much was pouring out of the shaker when I tapped it. But a mistake like that turns to new discoveries. The glitter containers I use have 3 holes in the top and I taped over all but 1 of them. That slows the amount of glitter coming out of the container. Something else that will help is to shake out a bit of glitter onto a piece of white paper before putting it on the bait. This will give you an idea as to what angle you need to hold the container and how hard you need to shake it. By doing this over a piece of clean paper you can recover any glitter that doesn't go on the bait. Ben

TrophyFishR
Those eyes are bad, Lol. I don't have the 3D eyes yet, they arrive this week. I take a pair of side cutters & clip the eye in half to make them fit.
