gary armstrong
can anyone tell me what hook i can use in my Bullet Nose Jig mold? It calls for a 410 or 413 Eagle Claw hook . I bought L786BP hooks and they do not fit.
cadman
If you have this mold by Do-It (BDB-5-A) #3228 then you should be using the following hooks. Mustad #32786 and EC L786BP. You mentioned that EC L786 BP does not fit. You will have to give us more info on what does not fit. Pics would help. Maybe you have a hook size that is too big for the cavity. Also supply us with the Do-It mold number.
smalljaw
I'll bet dollars to donuts that your way off size with the hook. The bullet nose mold should take them but only the heavier sizes, the 1/8oz only uses a size which isn't available on the L786 and the 1/4oz uses a 1/0, and the L86 only comes in a 2/0 as the smallest. So what size is your hook and which cavity are you trying to make work.
gary armstrong
Thanks guys the mold I have is (BDB-5-A) #3228. The hook I bought is L786BR 4/0 size. From the bend to the eyelet the the hook is to long. I just got the mold and hooks yesterday and thought the bigger the hook the better. How well does the Mustad hook fit? I see you can use 32786. Can you up size the hook per cavity. So if it calls for a 1/0 and so on can you can you go up a size on the hook like other molds. Thanks Gary
LimpNoodle
You can go up one size. I've cast that jig with EC 730 hooks and EC EL786 and a couple of other hooks in the past. Finding a hook that fits is not all that hard. As far as hook size goes where did you get the idea that the bigger the hook the better? cadman
Gary, I am looking at my hook chart, and there is no 4/0 hook that will fit any of those cavities on that mold. The 1/8 and 1/4 oz will take a 1/0, 3/8 and 1/2 oz..............2/0, 3/4 oz..................3/0. With the info I have these will work with a 32786 hook. What cavity are you interested in and what size hook do you want to put into it. I will check when I get home tonight. I do know that the thinner 60 degree hooks will fit more of the cavities. LimpNoodle
Do-It shows a 413/410 in 4/0 fitting the 3/4 ounce and I know I've used other 4/0 hooks in that mold.
cadman
Do-It shows a 413/410 in 4/0 fitting the 3/4 ounce and I know I've used other 4/0 hooks in that mold. You might be right on the 3/4 oz, I don't have that hook showing on my chart. maybe there were other issues. Now I'm curious, as to see why I don't have it listed. Going to see tonight when i get home.
gary armstrong
I seen some postings on Bass Baits Buy And Barter using 4/0 hooks wits the same jig. They are putting them in the 1/8oz and 1/4. So I thought I would try it
smalljaw
The diameter is very different from a 1/0 to the 4/0 so it would need to be modified in order to use it.
LimpNoodle
Also the length of the eye is different.
