Elrik
Hi guys. I have been lurking around reading posts and watching videos and am interested in getting into pouring my own plastics. I am trying to be realistic about it though, and don't want to jump in head first buying a bunch of stuff to find I am not that into it. My main concerns are that i will find the fumes too annoying or the process too tedious/dangerous for the rewards. To that end, i was wondering if there is anyone here on the forums who lives in the toronto area and wouldn't mind having me come over and join them for an hour or so one night to help out while they pour and get some first hand experience and decide if it is something i would enjoy doing or not. Alternately, if there are no Toronto people, i will be visiting my inlaws in Acworth GA for a week around Christmas if there is anyone in that area that would be willing to give me a quick intro to the hobby. Much appreciated Tony

JRammit
Of all the new guy posts ive seen here, ive never once seen anyone come back and reply that they didnt like it In fact its quite the opposite!... Some even have more fun making baits than using them Your concern with safety shows you are already off to a good start!..... Remember, its only as dangerous as you make it...... Develop good HABITS, and make them habits so you never get complacent I like your approach, hopefully there's someone near to show you the ropes

Vodkaman
Elrik - that is a sensible and reasonable request. I hope you find someone to help you out. Dave
rynesgto
I love doing it. The one regret I have is I bought a bunch of molds at once before I even started.now I'm down to 4 molds of baits I use consistently. The biggest investment for me starting was the molds, followed by the plastisol. I would say I wasted almost a half gallon of plastic before I got to the point where I was satisfied with my baits. It's actually quite addicting and definately helps me get through the winters. I highly suggest starting off buying a mold or 2 off ebay. I have bought a used mold and made a bunch of baits, then sold it for the same price I bought it for. If you are looking for a craw mold, I highly suggest the 702, it's a fish catcher and pours great. Good luck, and you won't regret it Edited December 7, 2015 by rynesgto
sticky
As far as the fumes, a ventilation system is a must. Fumes build up quickly and are not good to breathe in. I modified a range oven hood with a 800 cfm blower and vented it up through the ceiling to the roof vent in my shop. It does the job. Where do you plan on setting up at?
Elrik
Thank you for the great feedback so far guys. so far appears the lack of canadian retailers in this market is due to a lack of canadians pouring, or is it vice versa? : Fishon-son, thank you for the offer. I am driving with my family and can't really stop mid-drive in pursuit of my "crazy hobbies", but the offer is appreciated.I looked up Bait Junkies and they are about an hour away from my in-laws (which with Atlanta traffic could easily be closer to 4 hours!), so may reach out to them about stopping by for a pop-in. My main interest in pouring my own is for panfishing, so I am most interested in smaller molds, and I have been quite intrigued with the threads that arkansasman has had both here and on crappie.com about the making of his new mold in conjunction with these guys, and it is a mold I would strongly consider getting. Think I need to sign up for a membership on crappie.com and cross post there, as it seems there are several guys from the ATL area on that board and it is looking that I have a better chance of meeting up with someone while at my in-laws than I do here at home.As far as setup, that is one of the primary reasons I want to be able to work with someone else before committing myself. I don't want to spend the money on equipment to find that I can't get sufficient ventilation without major investment construction, but that will depend on how bad the fuming is. I have a library in the basement at the back of the house. The closet in the room backs onto the furnace room and there is a space where I can put in an exhaust vent that is currently unused that vents out the side of the house.I have a hood vent laying around from our kitchen reno a few years ago that I figured I could put in there, and then keep the microwave there, and I have a desk/workspace just beside the closet where I could do the actual pouring. The window for the room is at the opposite end, and I would plan to work with it open with a fan pushing air out as well as have one at the workspace pushing air towards the window. The only problem with this plan is that it would then rely on just getting passive air draw from the rest of the house and there would be no source of fresh outside air. Would this be a concern? JRammit
If you like reading, theres some good info about ventilation in this thread http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/topic/22855-venting-question/# Its quite long, but several different ideas and approaches to the problem within My solution was a "booth" of sorts for pouring my plastic in, having only to vent the small booth rather than the big room...... It worked quite well, only wish i would have gotten a slightly bigger fan
Apdriver
Sure a lot of ways to skin this cat. Where there's a will, there is probably going to be a way if you have a space to work and a way to vent outside. Sounds like you have a nice plan and good luck. FATFLATTIE
I know Enforcer Molds is in BC. Only Canadian mold company I know of. They make the best molds I have used. They shoot great. And like most they have great customer service and best of all they fish their own stuff and are more than willing to talk to ya about anything. rynesgto
I have also used Enforcer Baits molds. Good molds, just sucks that they take forever to ship to me from Canada, patience is not my strongest attribute.

curt k
Thanks guys for the positive words about our company . Regarding the shipping , if thers ever a problem with timing or anything else then contact me any time We've been shipping US orders with USPS from Washington state for over a year now . I monitor everything about our orders including tracking packages and who is getting what and when . I've worked it out so that all packages arrive in a timely manner and is reasonably priced , and oddly enough our US customers benfit from better shipping rates than Canadians who are having to get stuff thru Canada post It's rare that it ever takes more that two weeks for a customer to recieve their package , and usually thats only under odd circumstaces (holidays etc). If by chance someone needs their products sooner then I can always make arrangements to suite that , but it also comes with a hefty premium as well , which is out of my control . I'll do what I can to accomidate . Regards Curt Enforcer Bait Molds Edited December 10, 2015 by curt k
FATFLATTIE
All of my packages from Enforcer came in less than a week and a half. Pretty reasonable to me. And like I said if there are any issues/questions he is more than available. Wonderful customer service.
