topwatersniper
Those of you that have websites or blogs, what have you found that drives traffic there?
Vodkaman
From a user point of view, your website must appear on the first page of my Google search. If I am not just browsing, I might go to the second or third page, but very rarely would I go any deeper. Your website must be set up to respond to the most applicable search words and phrases. To achieve this 'front page' goal is no easy matter with so much competition out there, so you may need professional assistance which of course means paying. Having got someone to press the button, you have ten seconds to hold their attention. The site must load in 5 seconds or less, it must appear to have what I want and it must appear familiar and easy to use. The front page should have pictures of what I am looking for and easy to find buttons that are going to send me to the correct page. Images are the biggest killer to load speed, but they need not be. It is possible to take any 5Mb image and reduce the file size to 30Kb - 40Kb and still be excellent viewing quality. The image pixel count should be just what is needed and no bigger. Don't give me blurry images, get a photographer friend to do the pics. This image started life as 5Mb and is reduced to 30Kb and as you can see, the image is still large and could be reduced further. Travis
What are some of you favorite websites? To me Tacklewarehouse has about the best website. Navigation excellent, well laid out, pictures are great, videos usually HD 1080, product description clear well done, and overall professional and slick. It is actually enjoyable to use.
topwatersniper
Thanks Dave...but please allow me to be more specific. The issue is...I am conducting a contest with prizes and $ for a small number of fisherman who will compete against one another with my lure. They will receive 2 lures free. Honestly, if it weren't me holding this contest...I would do it, there's nothing to lose. My worry is that I won't get competitors because they don't know it's out there. Any ideas would be appreciated! Thank you
Vodkaman
That is not a web thing, it is local news rags, sports shop posters, contact local fishing clubs, schools etc. Dave
Salty's
Put all your competition out of business with low prices and good service. Then when someone looks for something you make Google has to put you at #1 cuz there isn't anyone else in the world Those of you that have websites or blogs, what have you found that drives traffic there? BobP
One smart way to generate traffic is to contact the web masters of a couple of popular bass fishing sites (or whatever species you build for) and buy an ad about your contest. Lots more eyeballs that way. I think possibly the biggest bass fishing site right now is bassresource.com.
Travis
Really might want to reconsider your idea as you may end up actually doing more harm to yourself than good if you don't have the resources or a well thought out contest. How many anglers are you actually looking at participating in your contest? What caliber of fishermen are you getting in this contest. How much money at stake? Is this going to end up being a dozen kids and guys just looking for a free cranks? I can't help but think you would be better off chucking some money the way of small local lake tourney's. Big bass bonus sponsored by..... biggest smallmouth.....etc.... Work out them to display a small banner in return.

fishon-son
you might be better off hitting the local docks and giving some baits away with a card to your web page .....i give alot of plastics away and get alot more back for remelts from friends of friends of friends...i dont sell my baits. but, just give them to people to try....I mostly like getting a big bass on in front of someones dock and they ask what I got it on....boy that works........there faces light right up.....well worth it....good luck
TheHammer
I feel there are a few things that drive the traffic to a site most. 1. Offering a quality product 2. Social media like Facebook 3. Updating and Events 4. New Products 5. Word of mouth First off, if you have a site which promotes a specific product, it should obviously be a quality product which is in demand. Connect your site/blog to a good social media page like Facebook....I know, for some, FB can be a pain in the butt, however its a great vehicle to reach thousands of people in a short period of time. I am constantly updating my website; so it is a good idea to learn how to manage your site YOURSELF, without having to rely on someone else to do it. New products offered from time to time helps as well. Finally, word of mouth....have your site on a card or tell people about it all the time.....They will spread the word. Good Luck!
