Nightjack
Anyone have any recommendations for a strong hook that will fit into the Do-it Banana jig mold without any modification to it? I believe it takes a 60 degree O'Shaughnessy. Looking for a nice strong hook with a real sharp point for tautog fishing. 7/
BLT
What weight jig? That's a pretty big hook for Tog.
Nightjack
I primarily use a 2oz jig. I think the mold has cavities for a 2 1/2 and 3oz also. I'll prob pour a few of those, but mainly want to use the 2oz. 5/0-7/0 should work out. Those hooks look pretty small in the mouth of an 8-10lb tog. LimpNoodle
Eagle Claw 730. Barlow's generally has a list of hooks that will fit in each mold on their website. If not you can call and they'll check for you.
BLT
The hook listed on the mold should be plenty strong enough. Mustad 34184, and if I remember right, that is an 8/0 for all three sizes in that mold. That size is into the Striper size hooks. The spro/Ultra minnow molds in the 2 3 and 4oz. size take the 8/0 hooks for stripers. (and larger) So, the 7/0 should fit just fine in that mold, 6/0 is a coin toss, 5/0, I would say you will have to work on the post for the eye, it will probably not fit on the post. (shave some off the post) That is what I did for my spro mold to get 5/0 and 6/0 hooks for Flounder in there. Your the first person I have known to use a jig for Tog. Sounds like fun. Everyone I know that goes for Tog uses a rig with a sinker. Edited January 11, 2016 by BLT
Nightjack
The jig has been a real hot crazy up here in the northeast. Most of us are finding it out fishes the rig set up. We tip the jig w a crab and drop to the bottom then hold them still. Try to find holes in the rocks and hang on! Works great.
BLT
Only issue I would see with the jig instead of a plain hook rig is if the jig is pointed hook away from the rocks where the tog is hiding. Glad you all are doing well with it. Love tog!
