Mold Modification

Recommended Posts

I would like to modify a bullet Spinnerbait Mold to have the form wire coming out of the head to be at a 45 degree angle. Any suggestions on the best way of doing this ? I don't like stressing the wire after it comes out of the mold. Would like it to be as precise as possible.

Any advise would be much appreciated.

This is not hard to do, simply fill in the old slot for the wire with JB Weld. Once the JB Weld is cured you can sand smooth and then lay your wire at the angle you want and close the mold. After the mold is closed, place a wood block over the mold to protect it, and then strike with a hammer, this will put an indent in the mold so you will see when you need to make the cut. Once you are that far then you take a needle file and begin opening up the slot until the wire fits. The trick is to keep firm pressure on the file and count the number of strokes and repeat on the other side of the mold, for example, take the triangle needle file and make 3 strokes on one side, flip the mold and make 3 strokes and then try your wire, if it doesn't fit you repeat the process until it fits and your mold will be modified. There is one other thing you have to change, and that is the wire form itself, when you get your slot cut you'll lay your wire form in with the hook and you'll notice the hook is sticking out less, all you do is make a small bend in the wire form, just the last 1/2" needs to be bent at a small angle and you'll be good to go.
