Will
I've been looking for theses hooks around the net. They vary in prices. Do you guys know where I could get a good deal for my money? http://www.staminainc.com/images/products/new/gamaewgworm.JPEG Thanks.

Will
CJ, I noticed that you are from Santee, CA. I actually live in El Cajon. Where do you usually fish, what are your spots for salt and fresh-water fishing? I have probably seen you around and did not know it was you. Hopefully I'll meet you one of these days. Until then... siebler_custom_baits
well i fished walmart pond today for 2 bass and a few lost at the boat. I fish all over. I am usually in my grey cobra kayak and almost always have on a bassproshops hat that is blue and very faded. We should get together and fish. Sanv still has trout. I got double limits last week. GB GONE
color really doesn't seem to matter. This is definitely the hook for stick baits and finesse type worms. After changing to these my "hookup" rate went up. Jim

Will
CJ, I've never really fished fresh-water. My only two attempts at fresh-water fishing were at Lake Murray in La Mesa and the fish count was 0. Since I got started on pouring my own plastics, I'm beginning to buy molds for fresh-water fishing so if you know a place to go, let me know and I'm there. I usually fish SD Bay. I love Bayside Park in the fall when the bite becomes wide open, but lately I've been doing the Tidelands scene. What model of Cobra kayak do you have? If I'm by myself, you would probably see me on a white OK Prowler, but lately my girlfriend has been fishing with me, so it is most likely that you would see us on a white OK Malibu II XL. I'll see you around CJ. http://community.webshots.com/s/image14/6/81/28/164768128yBKfnc_ph.jpg

BigZ
My fishin' buddy uses 1/0 Gama exclusively. The best price he's found is at BassPro, 25 packs are from 8-10 dollars (figure 32 to 40 cents each compared to 50 cents each at Wally World). Then you have shipping to consider as well, so if you're gonna order hooks you may as well get other stuff while you're at it otherwise you aren't saving much. You can get hooks from eBay pretty cheap too. I'll stick to the Owners myself...NASTY HOOKS!
siebler_custom_baits
i think we should see if jerry will add them to the supply shop someday so TU benifits from what we all buy anyways. Why not support tu if you are spending the money? might even be cheaper. I could imagin he woulnt have a probem selling 1000 hooks.
alsworms
I didn't wanna mention the word "Owner", but since Z already did........ that's all I use too. Expensive, but worth every penny in my book.
Will
What do you guys think about these ones? http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=15821&hvarDept=100&hvarEvent=&hvarClassCode=10&hvarSubCode=2&hvarTarget=browse I placed an order for a couple of different sizes just to take them for a test drive. Travis
I ended up just purchasing the VMC wide gaps from FFO. 25 bucks for 1000 hooks seemed like a fair price to me. I just have to go through these darn hooks now. I got 1000 5/0 and 1000 2/0 should last me for quite some time.
Tm Customs
I would suggest the XPS hooks for less cover because they are very light wire, I don't think they would be good for flipping. Personally I use mostly owners some diachi gamakatsu super line hooks, and on some of my smaller hooks I am using XPS. But for the best all around wide gap I would suggest the owner "J Hook" With owner you get the cutting point which no other hooks really have exp. Diachi wich have the X point. If you decide to get owner I think they tend to run a bit smaller than most hoos so you may want to keep that in mind.
BigZ
The bass pro hooks aren't THAT bad. What you are paying for in Gamakatsu and Owner hooks is really the finish quality, heat treating and chemical sharpening. I would advise a hook sharpener with the bass pro hooks, as they are just ground to a point and not sticky sharp like the more expensive hooks out of the box. They look suspiciously identical to the standard (bulk, not retail packaged, which have improved quite a bit) mustad ewg worm hooks if you ask me. The gamakatsu and the owner are chemically sharpened, the Gama to a single needle like point and the Owner to look like a miniature broadhead. I like the Owner because I can straighten a Gamakatsu 1/0 EWG with 10lb P-line, good luck doing that to the Owner, they are stronger and sharper than any other hook I have used and I have used most, if not all of them. Daiichi also makes an evil EWG X-Point hook, but I have yet to find anywhere that sells retail bulk (100) packs of them. Another Japanese brand of hook that I like is Hayabusa, they are sharp and strong as hell. I think Wal-Mart actually carries them now(at least in Clear Lake ). Rapala has 3 grades of VMC hooks for sale under their name now, and I got a case of the Rapala premium EWG, they are a lot nicer than the "Hamecons" type of VMC hook that they sell on FFO and elsewhere. I actually used one of these all day today on a C-Rig (when I wasn't catching dinks on a Rat-L-Trap)with no adverse effects except to the fish. I have about 20-30 8ct packs of 4/0 and 5/0 left if anyone wants me to put them on the trades list.. I like the old style offset VMC hooks for two things, flipping and senkos. I like them for flipping due to the fact they are super strong, and for s?nko type baits because they are thick, sit right and help the bait sink fast. Sorry for the verbal onslaught, I got "hooked" into the discussion... PS: The only EWG hooks I have tried that reallly suck are Eagle Claw. Avoid that {4 letter expletive} junk at all costs. I think they are made of old Milwaukees best cans or something....and pull-tab cans at that..
woodsac
BPS sells 2 different hooks. They have their standard brand and they have their 'premium' brand XPS. The XPS hooks are chemically sharpened. The XPS hooks seem to run a little small. And as mentioned, they are a little on the light side. I think they're a little stronger then a 'light wire' hook, but not as strong as a premium Owner. Overall, they are very good hooks for the price. siebler_custom_baits
i fish light wire ewg gamis on all my worms and tubes and stuff nomatter how im fishing the bait. I fish some extremly hight pressured areas so a am flipping 6 lb mossgreen pline and 4" worms on the lightwire hooks. Most the time i have to go in after fish but i catch way more than anybody i take with me because they are fishing 10+ lb test line but its not a problem in a kayak to go in after fish. I beleive the light wire hook helps a lot in these conditions as wee because since ive started using the light wire when flipping my fish counts have doubled. Will, You too may want to try what i am doing since most of SD is hevily pressured.
Delw
Those hooks to me are the best. the gamy hooks in this thread. I fish alot of tournys and just plain fish alot. I dont loose fish with the eg hooks even using dropshot weights 1/2oz and 3/8soz. I only use them for dropshotting and split shotting, I wont use them or any other gamy hook(with exception of jig heads) for fishing , reasoning being is that the hook point is so sharp and so long it tends to bend on the first rock or tree I hit. I only use owner hooks for texas rigging and pitching mojo rigging etc. owner hooks have the best point on them I have ever found and once in a fish they dont come out like the gamy's(other than the eg hooks) while they are expensive$5 of a 5 pack I dont have to worry about loosing fish. I also dont have to worry about the hook point bending, I go through about 40-50 bags a year of eg hooks and about 20-30 bags a year of owner hooks
