tweinz
Hi All, just registered on this forum. Been pouring for a year now and this is by far the best place for everything lure making. I am making weedless football jigs and the weed guards melt off when powder painting, even with the heat proof covers on them. I am going to try the other way....gluing after the paint is cured. which is better, the metal pin that comes with the mold or the Teflon ones that can be ordered. also can the paint be cured with the pin still in the jig. Thanks Jamie Antoine

cadman
Teflon pins are the way to go. Also do not bake the jig with the teflon pins in the jig. You can also pour with the teflon pins. You have a PM. BTW welcome to both of you to TU.
tweinz
Thanks, what happens if you bake with the pin still in. On various supplier websites they say to bake with the pin in.
LimpNoodle
Hagen's has the pins also.

smalljaw
What you do is paint with the pins in place, this will keep powder out of the weed guard hole. Once the jig is painted, pull the pin and hang the jig to be baked. You can bake the jigs with the pins in but a problem that can occur is that the tiny bit of paint surrounding the hole bakes hard and some of it is on the pin, so when you remove the pin after baking, there is a chance that you can chip the paint by the weed guard hole. tweinz
makes sense smalljaw, I was worried that if the paint runs a bit when baking it will make the hole smaller and the weed guard wont fit.
archery1
teflon pins are the ticket.. they come outta jig alot easier If some one wants to try 1 or 2 pm me. I also have a bag not opened of the metal ones for sale
Apdriver
If you bake your jigs and heat set the powder paint with the pins still in, it's a bugger removing the paint off your pins for reuse.
DaBehr
If you are careful and get a good light coat of paint you can take the Teflon pins out before bakeing if you wish. If you have a heavy coat of paint ..leave them in when you bake so the paint doesn't run into the hole. I leave mine in most of the time. I bought a bunch of them so I only have to having a cleaning session only once in a while. I just scrap the paint off with my fingernail. The longer you wait to clean them the better because the PTFE (Teflon) migrates to the surface of the pin and the paint comes off easier.
