ebutler79
I am looking at the mold FBS-5-ATK Trokar football head with Screw lock and liking the style but not liking the hook (price). So I have a couple of questions 1. Is there a comparable mold with screw lock that uses a wide gap hook 2. is there an EC, Gami, Mustad hook alternative that will work with this. I am ok with some minor modding of the mold but nothing too intense. Thank you again for you time and look forward to spending way to much time here. Apdriver
Yes, there is another that doesn't take the Trokar. It's the FBB-6-SLA. Takes the Mustad 32798 hook. I like the EL2798BP as a direct replacement. Fish these a bunch and really like them.
ebutler79
Thank you for your response. I will definiately look into that head a little more. The main reason I liked the Trokar was the wide gap on the hook. I may end up with both who knows. What few jigs I have done so far has been fun, as my 11 year old daughter is enjoying it as well. Anytime I can spend time with her fishing is always a plus
smalljaw
The FBB-6-SLA take the 32798 Mustad but that isn't an EWG style hook, but if you want that style of hook the Mustad 38109 should fit. That hook is a 45 degree flat eye but due to the EWG bend it fits the 60 degree molds. Keep in mind this football screw lock doesn't have a flat bottom like the Trokar model. I'm a little disappointed in the fact that they made a round shaky mold that you can use other hooks but then they come out with a football shaky with a special made hook with no replacement but that is how they want to do it I guess. If I was going to get the Trokar football shaky mold, I'd look at getting the Gamakatsu 684 hook, it is similar to the Trokar so the amount of mold modification shouldn't be bad but I may be wrong as I don't know of anyone who has that mold. If you don't need the flat bottom then grab the regular football shaky and use the Mustad 38109 EWG, that will get you a similar stance and profile.
ebutler79
I just ordered some of the 38109 and will work with that. I am not overly concerned with stand up head, because lets face it most bottom areas are not flat and your soft plastic is what usually stands up the jig Thank you guys again for you time
archery1
I just wish eagle claw would make a ewg hook again to fit the FBB-6-SLA or SRH-6M-SLA mold
rwfleming
guys does the Gami 674-4/0 Wide Gap Hooks work in this Trokar Stand Up Football Mold?
mark poulson
Does Mustad make the Trokar hooks?
smalljaw
No, the Gamakatsu 674 or 684 does not fit the Trokar shaky football mold. Mark, Eagle Claw makes Trokar hooks.
LimpNoodle
guys does the Gami 674-4/0 Wide Gap Hooks work in this Trokar Stand Up Football Mold? There is a Gami hook that works. I've used it and my buddy uses it. Not sure of the number. Give Capt. Hook a call and ask them. Just checked. G674

LimpNoodle
The Gami is a drop in replacement. No modifying the mold needed...if you get the G674 hooks.

LimpNoodle
Glad I could help ya out. It's a nice mold and I really wish there was a standard Mustad/EC/VMC hook that would fit in it. I'd much rather pay $0.10 than $0.35.

I'd much rather pay $0.10 than $0.35. i am going to order a single pk of the VMC 7346BN Special Bend Hooks and also a pack of the Mustad 37194 BLN Special Bend Hooks and see how much modification is needed on the Mold in order to use those...... smalljaw
According to lure parts online, the Mustad 37194 is a Mustad equivalent to the Gami 674 so if the Gami works so should the Mustad. The thing is, I email Lure Parts before about the 674 and I was told it doesn't fit that mold without modification but I guess it does and if so then the Mustad should work.

smalljaw
Are you getting the Mustad hooks as well? Just ask for a sample of the 4/0 and see if that works as well.
