Musky0503
I have a Apex vice and it has a little spring around the Arm of the vice. What is that used for?
BLT
I never used the one on mine, but I think it is for holding material while you while you do the wraps?

RayburnGuy
If I'm not mistaken the spring is what puts pressure on the jaws so they open when you loosen the locking nut. My Griffin vice has an o-ring in place of the spring in the same location. Ben
smalljaw
The spring is a material holder, there are fly patterns that have material tied on for wing casings and when you tie the material in you can fold it back and the spring will hold it away from where you are tying until it is time to tie that piece of material in.
RayburnGuy
So what does the o-ring do on the Griffin vice Smalljaw? Ben

mark poulson
I clicked on this thread thinking, "Aha, something I actually know something about". Then I realized it was about tools to hold stuff....
smalljaw
The o-ring on a griffin vise actually holds the jaw and provides a counter force against the jaws. If you go to the Griffin website you can look at the Blackfoot Mongoose vise and see where the material clip is, and it isn't on the actual jaw set, and the reason is you basically grab it and move it to where you need it.
