EironBreaker
Do they wear out? I have a set that I've had for a number of years, I can't say specifically how many jigs have been poured around them but I wonder if they are wearing out over time. Either my weed guard supplier is slipping with bigger fused ends or the hole I'm making is not big enough. Some weed guards will fit in without too much trouble but sometimes I need to trim the guard down to glue it in. Is it time to get a new set? cadman
I have two sets one for painting and one set for pouring. No they do not wear out. The ones for pouring get really dirty, but I've used mine for about 6 years so far and no problems at all. Why don't you do what I do and glue them in by sticking the non-fused end in first. This way the strands don't get splayed out. Also if you do it the way I do it, and it is too tight, you can take a couple of strands off. Once they are glued and dried, take a pair of side cutters, and cut the fused end off. I've always done mine this way. Don't know if it works for you, but it is a lot easier for me to put in the weedguards this way. Just a thought. osutodd
Brilliant! Wish I had heard that tip years ago...
EironBreaker
If I get the guards from Kayser Lure Co, that works fine - pulling off a couple strands. I get most from Fishingskirts and they are fused differently. A little more fused part generally. I keep a knife handy to trim them down if need be. Just thought I'd ask. I'm down to 3 pins so I need to make an order Ted. I might try some powder paint from you also. I'll get in touch with you when I get back in town after next week.
