Recommended Posts

few days back I picked up a bag of these baits .99 a bag great price ..these bait have a matching piece of foil in the middle of the bait  . I guess as a reflective ...I have 2 questions..1st has anyone tried to do this ..it really look like it would work well as a swim jig trailer...and 2nd....the bait has a funny smell to them more like burnt gas/motor oil..?  I washed 1 bait with soap and water ( dawn) a towel dryed and it still smelled....im started to think its the foil maybe?  from the heat of the plastic....I went back to the store later and checked some of the other bags ,different colors and all of them smelled the same.....it dose not look like it was burnt in any way....or maybe its mylar in the bait.....any help?    I'm not out much

I have done some of the Mylar in swim baits, It was very time consuming but the results look good. Now when the bait got bit and stretched it out the Mylar was kind of an anchor. Was told to split the Mylar into pieces so the bait could stretch. Spikeit has some Mylar for sale in small rolls just for this type of stuff. It is the same stuff they make there glitter from so it is pretty heat tolerant. Best to coat it with there bond coat so it will stick real well to the plastic.

On the plastic smell, there are some ingredients that can be used to make plastic that goes rancid and smells really bad. It is an organic ingredient. When this happens it does not happen right away it takes some time to forment. Don't use that plastic anymore and never will.

It's mylar they put in there and they're made in China so who knows what all goes into them.

your right there dave...the usa seams to have sold out to the cheap china labor market...hell most of our crankbaits come from china....but the craw itself looks like it would be good..maybe our mold builders can take a look at that for a new mold.......
