mark poulson
I saw this on a headlight restoration video on Youtube, and it looked like it would work for hard bait clear coating. At least for plastic baits, and maybe for resins and PVC, too. Has anyone here tried it? http://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/painters-touch-ultra-cover-2x/clear
DingerBaits
I had to paint up an ice fishing camera for a customer and used that as a clear. Used Testor's Aztek, and has held up. Unsure if I would use it to clear a bait though. Possibly bills to get the cloudiness out of them.
andy1976
Used it recently to clear some large saltwater jigs seems like pretty good stuff
bass100
I have used it to clear some bills in the past but never on a bait. I wouldn't get the 2X but instead get the regular. The difference between the 2x and the regular is the amount that is being sprayed out. You will have alot less runs with the regular because you can put on several lighter coats and not just one heavy coat that usually runs. fresque93
Are they're sprays that work as a finish? I'm pretty new to painting and wondered how manufactures finish they're hard baits...it's like there's nothing there. It's so thin, anybody know? SW Lures
This is what I have been using Mark. I have been testing it from the beginning. I said that I would not say anything about what it was until I was confident in the product, until I was sure. I've been using it now for about 9 months. It has good results so far. It is not real glossy but that's what I'm looking for. It's very quick drying and easy to use. I spray it outside, then hang the lure up. I put multiple coats on in minutes. I protect the cuts and drill holes from water intrusion first before spraying. At this point I'm very happy with it. Take Care, Dale

Zrb284
Just throwing this out there... I have not used the rust oleum but I have been using ace clear gloss enamel before a final epoxy coat. I have been using permanent marker to add details to my baits and have not had any running to speak of with any color marker.
SW Lures
With this product that I have referreded to, I have not had any runs either. My hard fishing is about to start. I will have baits in the water every day and some nights for three weeks to start with. My baits have been used through the winter by others and none have said anything about any issues. I'm saying this because I started making lures not to long ago. This coat has been used the most since I started. I'm always excited about this annual trip. Kind of excited to see how my baits hold together and how they hold up to fishing pressure. Some big fish are normally caught. We shall see about the clear coat and how it holds up to this type of fishing. Cheers, Dale Edited March 3, 2016 by DaleSW
