Plastic Bait Cost Breakdown Help

Buy your plastic in the 55 gallon drums. I only use M and F plastic. I just recently bought another two drums. If you were to buy one 5 gallon plastic with shipping it is $165.00. My 5 gallon buying it by the drum comes out to $118 per 5 gallon with shipping. The savings is $47 per 5 gallons, add that savings up per drum and that his huge!!!

The price on Spike it's drum is about $600, Mf is $1214. Now that savings! I will say one thing Spike it's price does fluxuate because it uses a commodity that does too but oil is cheap now and so are the drums. Even when oil was high never paid over 800.

Actually I had spike it quite me last week and the best price value is 4 drums at $505 each and that includes shipping. It is a huge savings if you can deal with tacky plastic and foam like crazy. I couldn't use it!!

And don't forget about recycling, I get $40.00 per barrel at my local metal recycler.

Yes it can be like that if you don't mix it well and the bubble can be delt with a vacumn chamber. A good vacumn set I up will set you back about $225 but with the savings it will pay for itself. You need to check on that guote too I am sure it does not include shipping unless they are your neighbor and you pick it up. This plastic can't be as bad as some might make out most all of the manufacturers use this formula but they don't microwave it. If you are not used to mixing plastic before you use it just make a note it does settle faster than the Mf and takes a little more to get it mixed back in. I use a five gallon bucket with a removable lid and a cordless drill with a paint mixer on it. Really only take 30 seconds to mix.

Guys u get what you pay for. If you can work calhouns then great! It's hard as a rock and burns easy!

Hmmmmmm, I wen through somewhere around 30 drums of soft, meduim and hard over the years (combined, not each) and have NEVER experienced any of this. Only ever had one drum come in that bubbled bad that came from a bad batch, every drum after was fine. found it VERY stable with heat as well.

Just talked to my brother, he said the batch we had was missing some kind of mixing agent for microwave use, that is why it burnt! Like I said if it works for you then that's great!

Sorry my bad, here is the break out from Spike It on their plastic. 2 Drums of Pourasol $635 each, $360 Roughly for shipping = ($815 per drum.) 4 Drums of Pourasol $510 each, $515 Roughly for shipping =($640 per drum).

M and F is by far the best plastic on the market but probably the most expensive!

This whole Brand X plastic is best etc doesn't mean anything, it's all subjective. Use what works best for you.

I read through this awesome post and was wondering do the guys who buy the "XYZ Brand Plastisol" at 1/2  or cheaper cost cut the finished goods prices in half or how does that work? Like is a bait that cost 10 cents with brand X, is the brand Z  a nickel? Or is it a one way street? Thanks in advance...

LOL. Im not offended by any means. Its pretty simple. You asked if we bought materials at half the price, if our baits were priced accordingly? Answer, No

Now My question, If your buying the same materials,why are you charging twice as much?  One Way Street?

I have priced what I believe to be the better plastics on the market like M & F , Lure Craft, and plastic from Do IT. These three manufactures have 55 gallon drums priced within $15 of each other. Now if you buy plastic from another manufacture at significantly cheaper rate I believe there is a difference in materials used to make it. From my experience the cheaper plastic makes a cheaper looking bait as it may be tacky, plastic may bubble etc. But if a cheaper plastic works for your individual use then that's awesome.

I will answer that one with pride and give a just reason for what I charge. As most of you know I pour for others that don't want to pour. And I sell wholesale. Most of my price is based on labor and very little on the actual plastic in a bait. So is the cost cut in half NO but it does save some penny's for the customer. I can make a normal mark up on the plastic I buy and not have to increase the cost to my customers. And because of the savings I have not raised prices to my customers in years. The lower cost on the drum does not come without a price. It's more labor to get bubble free plastic and a little more time to mix but not much. But that converts to labor and I charge for that. You get it now. I pay my self to do what someone else was doing before. Most of which is done while plastic is heating up. So less down time but I get paid for it. The quality of the end product is in no way different to my customers and for me that what counts. When I buy my plastic now it is based on the going rate for some of the components, just like gas. So if the oil goes down so will the price and visa versa.

Guys also remember that your recipes will vary in color from one manufacturers plastic to another.

M&F's plastic gives an amazing shine to the bait once there cured. I haven't seen another plastic give off such a nice looking finish.
