wannabe
ok ive been reading on here and trying to study up and felt like I learned some. you guys are very good and ver helpful. so I decided to get me a starter kit and see what I could do. I got a do-it essentials starter kit and I cant seem to get the claws on the brush hog to fill in. am I goin too fast? too slow? too hot? too cold? SlowFISH
Couple things... Yes a little hotter might help... I'd also suggest trying to warm the mold too if your plastic is already in the 300 range... looks like it's "freezing" off before you can fill it fully. I'd also like to see the other half of the mold - specifically how big are the vents at the tips? If they aren't big enough (letting all the air escape easily) - that could be the problem. I make my own molds and tend to make the vents bigger than necessary as I'd rather pull off two little strings of plastisol from the tips than worry about filling out the mold consistently. MonteSS
Try injecting hard and fast. Hopefully you wont get flash. That is what I had to do with my do-it ribbontail worm.
wannabe
ok thanks guys. I will try those. im trying to post a pic of the vents but I don't see where to attach the files in the reply
Walking Dead
Are these the same pic? I am not seeing any venting on the pics you posted. If there is any, it is minimal. No venting may be your problem. You cannot expel the air to make room for the plastic.
DaBehr
I don't believe that is a Do-it mold. Their Brush Hog molds have rings in front of the flippers. Anyway... put a little worm oil on those back legs to help the flow until the mold gets warm. I see some flash which could mean you are injecting too fast. A NICE STEADY injection is normally perfect for most molds. Andy

Okay I've heard some of you guys mention the term, "flash," a couple times. Being an injection-less fool, can you explain what that means? raywillett
Okay I've heard some of you guys mention the term, "flash," a couple times. Being an injection-less fool, can you explain what that means? flash is when plastic pushes out of the body of the mold from too much pressure. it is extra plastic that is forced out of the mold beside the bait. hope i explained it well. if not pm me your phone number and i will text you a picture. wannabe
no it is not a do-it mold. it is lurecraft I think. I don't know how to post the pics of the vent. I don't see an attachment to click
mark poulson
If your mold doesn't have vents in the other half, I'd suggest you drill some small vent holes from the curly tail tips out to the side of the mold. And spray your mold with cooking spray before you shoot it. Hit the "more reply options" tab at the lower right corner of the reply page. It will let you attach pictures. Vodkaman
The vent system looks fine to me. All the above mentioned suggestions should be tried: slightly hotter plastic, heat the mold, more pressure, etc. It looks like you are very close to a solution. Stock's Lures
Try this, before you inject tip your injector upside down and try to push out all the extra air in the plastic. That is what works for me.
majic man
Shoot it with hotter plastic.
mark poulson
Maybe the curly bits are over vented. Try blocking off all but the very last vent, and see if that keeps the plastic going to the end.
majic man
Definetly not overvented. Loosen up on the clamps a little. Shoot hotter. Preheat the mold a little.

camrynekai
Maybe the curly bits are over vented. 1+ The second and third to the last vent has gotta go.
