hpssports
Ok, I've done laminates, marbles, swirls, etc, but have not yet done a core shot. Every video I've watched a single cavity mold has been used. Does it only work with single cavity molds or will a multi cavity work also? Bassinfool
I've only gotten cores with single cavity molds. If it can be done with multiple cavities someone is holding that secret very very close to the vest.
walleyeking
It only works with single cavity. You can just shoot the mold with scrap and leave all cavities full exept one. Now it's like you just have a one cavity mold. It takes some messing around to determine how much of each color to use but you can get fairly consistent. wishn4fishn
I can get core shots out of 2 cavity molds but the mold has to set up with one cavity on each side of the spru.

Vodkaman
I can think of insert solutions, but mold manufacture solutions are not going to be cheap. Also, the production would be a two stage pour, with the inserts needing to be withdrawn - complicated. Dave
Apdriver
Wishn, those are nice.
majic man
Can be done with a 100 cavitys at once, just got to have the mold setup right.
DaveMc1
Can be done with a 100 cavitys at once, just got to have the mold setup right. Of course, the large manufacturers do it all the time in their large production molds.
mark poulson
I do the "pour some into one half" method, too, but wishn4fishn/Brandon's baits are amazing! I'd love to be able to make laminates like his without investing a fortune.
majic man
@Vodkaman No inserts, and not complicated.

Grab a single cavity mold and hand pour some plastic into your sprue hole. Whatever you want the outside color to be. Take a guess at 1/2 the plastics to fill the mold. Then inject whatever you want your core color to be just after your hand pour. Takes a bit of planning and coordination but the results are nice.
Walking Dead
Horizontal or vertical lay of the cavity make a difference?
DaveMc1
Horizontal or vertical lay of the cavity make a difference? In my experience yes, you want a side inject mold for the best results.
rayhorse
Hi everyone,A hand core inyection proces could work shooting the half of plastic on a single cavity, close the sprue of the cavity with a cork plug or any other kind of diy plug, give some 180 degres half turns to the mold and stop after plastic get solid like roto molding proces. This should result in a hollow bait. Now open your mold and see if you need to cut the tip near to the sprue for the second color.
RSNeely
Im confused. How are core shots done!?
DaveMc1
on a single cavity side inject mold, pour the outside colour in the runner, then immediately inject the core colour into the mold, it will push the core colour through the outside colour
RAWJigs
I have a bobs mold 706 craw. 4 cavity. I cut the sprue where the top two cavities can be poured. I have each color I do this to down to a cadence and stream thickness. I pour it to what I need and shoot the rest. nedyarb
Rawjigs....can you post a pic of your modified mold?
majic man
Guys, It is really a simple concept, You have to have displacement. If your brave, Cut a groove in the tail so the plastic keeps pushing out, hit with the core color fast till you see it just come out, Problem solved, Core shot multi cavity mold.... RAWJigs
Rawjigs....can you post a pic of your modified mold? I didn't modify it per se, just take the big sprue and cut it to where i can only pour the top two ... but I will post what I do tomorrow afternoon after work. Elf
This is a core shot mold, where can I find more like it? I saw someone post an ad on Facebook for core shot grubs...the core went all the way through the tail. Majic and Wishn, those are some good looking baits but they are not what I would call "core shots". This particular mold comes with inserts and you can see the darker core inside the outer shell in the first, 3rd and 4th baits.
