fresque93
I was looking into using moisture cure urethane to finish my baits but all the products I've seen guys talk about on here are only in the United States whereas I'm in Canada and don't really know what to look for. Can anybody help me in what to look for or where to look for it? Is mcu mostly an exterior wood finish, or similar things like that? Thanks guys! 21xdc
Summit Racing sells KBS Diamond Clear... Not sure they ship to Canada. Google the product and see if it's available to you.
fresque93
I think I found a couple places in Quebec that sell it. Is it a moisture cure urethane? It doesn't say...that's why I'm wondering if I'm browsing over other products here because they don't specifically say MCU. Do you like KBS? Thanks
RayburnGuy
You might try contacting Dick Nite. His MCU is specifically formulated for coating the spoons he builds. He might ship to Canada. If tou contact him it's the solvent based S81 formula you want. Be sure to tell him your a TU member as he gives us a discount. Ben
fresque93
I was thinking about emailing him...but isn't the stuff flammable? They usually can't ship it across the border...I don't think. But I'll definitely ask him. Jeff
RayburnGuy
It is listed as flammable and does have to be shipped UPS here in the states. I don't know much about shipping across borders so it would be best to ask Dick. good luck, Ben
fresque93
Thanks I'm sure I'll find something. Either way Etex has worked well for me so far. Jeff
goodtimesfishing
X2 on the KBS diamond coat.......great stuff!
fresque93
How toxic would you say the stuff is?
aulrich
If I got this right it looks like some of the bigger paint stores can have it (Benjamin Moore super spec HP) it seems to be commonly used as a hardwood floor finish.
fresque93
I've seen that...have you tried it?
aulrich
I am still doing e-tex or d2t (if I am in a rush) at this point, I am hoping a renovation contractor buddy will have some leftovers I can try at some point, I would like to see how it stands up to pike. I may be wrong but MCU seems to be very popular for the bass bait builders and musky(and by extension pike) seem to use epoxy.
fresque93
I use Etex as well, and i do like it, but i would like to try something thinner. Plus its ease of use seems more appealing.
aulrich
I was able to find denatured alcohol (supposedly not available in Canada) at my plastic supply shop and it waters down etex very nice I have been using the watered down version as the first sealing coat on my lures. it does not take much (like drops) and do make sure the resin is well mixed and has cooked for a while or the cure time goes through the roof. But that could lighten up the coverage for you

aulrich
Let the reaction start, mix it up and leave it be for a min or 2 that is what I mean by cooked
