Groucho
I have not used the hooks for this mold - 253 , L255, 32608N or 7250 - Does anyone have an opinion which hook might be the best? Thanks
smalljaw
I have used the Gamakatsu 550, the Owner 5320, the EC L608, L255, the Mustad 32608 and the VMC 7250 and the one that I now use almose exclusively is the VMC 7250. The reason is simple, it hooks and holds well, nothing else to say really, but I do like the Mustad 32608 but I prefer the look of the black nickel and Mustad put such a premium price on them that I went to the VMC and haven't looked back. I'm not opposed to paying for a good hook but how they justified the difference in price from nickel to black nickel finish is ridiculous to say the least. Anyway, the 7250 has the extra long shank I like, it has a black nickel finish and it has a needle point. Some will say what didn't I like about the Owner or Gamakatsu hooks, well they were great hooks but the cutting edge on them would tear larger holes in the fish's mouth and I'd end up losing a lot of fish. I didn't realize why I was losing fish until the day I lipped one at the side of the boat and all I did was lift the fish out of the water and as soon as the line got slack the bait fell right out, that is when I knew why I was losing fish on those hooks. VMC 7250, awesome spinnerbait hook!!!!
cadman
I also have been switching over to the Eagle Claw L608 from the Mustads 32608. Nothing wrong with the Mustads, but their pricing over the years seems to have doubled on some hooks versus EC pricing. Also after trying Eagle Claw hooks they are as strong as the Mustads, and the EC hooks are made in the U.S.A. You won't be sorry buying Eagle Claw hooks. Groucho
can you use the L608 in this spinnerbait mold and is the eye small.
cadman
Yes you can use the L608 in this mold. Need to know what cavity you want to pour and what size hook you want to use in the cavity. Out of curiosity why do you need to know how big the hook eye is, unless you want to put a really big hook in a smaller cavity? Groucho
i believe the description said something about using small eyes hooks. Thanks for the info

Thanks for the info Guys here can help you check to make sure the hook you want will fit. However you will have to provide the cavity size you want to use and also the hook size. Also I do know that some guys tried to put trailer hooks on, in these molds. Those hooks will not work because as you mentioned the hook eye is too big in diameter and it will probably stick out on the sides of the body if used in the smaller sizes.
smalljaw
Cadman is exactly right, the reason you often see something that tells you to use hooks with a small diameter is is because it is a straight shank, heavy wire hook. There are a lot of flipping hooks, trailer hooks and Siwash style hooks that look like they would fit but they have large eyes. By telling you this they want you to use the hooks made for spinnerbaits and they are made with a smaller eye to fit in the cavities without coming through one side or both sides of the spinnerbait head. If I was using bright nickel hooks I'd probably use the Eagle Claw L608 but I like black nickel on a spinnerbait and the VMC 7250 works really well. Groucho
I was looking a place to buy the ec L608 and the only place I see is lurecraft. Is that the place most buy from?
smalljaw
Barlows tackle sells them. that is where I purchase most of my stuff.
