Glass Bead Media. Equipment Wear / Tear

Recommended Posts

Glass Bead Media

I need to add weight to my baits.
I have been using salt but am tired of it clouding my baits.

We are all aware of the Pros / Cons of salt.

We are also aware that a fish will not really care if a bait is
'cloudy' or 'clear', but this is not about this fish, it is about me!

So my concern is wear and tear on equipment. Has anyone shot a lot of baits
with 80 grit glass beads? I mean 1000's? Will this cause damage to my molds?

I understand their will be additional wear on my injectors (scoring).
I understand that I can minimize this if I keep the injector / O-rings well lubed.

I am concerned about scoring accuring in my expensive CNC'd molds.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks Bassinfool.

I have spent some time and looked at Glass Bead Media and now my head is really
hurting! Hopefully there are some mechanics here that can provide me with some
answers.

First I looked at Harbor Freight becuase some other threads here mentioned
this as a source for glass bead media. The reviews though state that this is
not really 'beads' but is more like crushed glass. I assume that this is not good for me
so I have written this off.

So now I am down to what 'grit' to use.
Again, I am after weight only. I want my baits to remain as clear as possible.
The options seem to be (I am ignoring 'Course'):
1.) 70/100
2.) 100/170
3.) 170/325

Which 'grit' do you use?

Thanks.

I have a good friend who restores old cars and use bead media and he gave me a ton of it for free. I'm not really sure what size it is but it's very small and fine with a smooth sand-like texture if that makes sense? I know some guys who have used the stuff from harbor freight without issue.
