joelhains
I have an Abu Veritas rod. I really like the weight, action and sensitivity, but I HATE a white rod!lol I've been thinking about stripping it down to the blank and overhauling it...replacing the guides and painting grey or black. Any tips on the paint side of things? Should I lightly sand before painting? Which type of paint would work best and be the most durable? Thanks
Braided Line
Suggestion. "painting fishing rods U-Tube." Search that question. There is a tutorial ref you question on U-Tube. Audio.visual.. Get to see the "how to." Good stuff. I just use a spray can (color of my choice.) Remember, enamel paint over lacquer. Not the other way around. When your done it`s like getting a new rod.... Lilpdriverrat
If you want it gray, use something like citrus paint stripper to remove the paint. Make sure it is citrus strip as others are too harsh and can damage the resin. This will get it down to raw graphite finish. Imo, painting over a rod that is already painted adds WAY too much extra weight and will deaden the rod tremendously.
