Les Young
What would be the best way to modify the tails on a hard plastic mold? Would a dremel tool melt it? Thanks
JRammit
Sounds too risky to me..... You likely paid money for that mold and dont wanna ruin it I think the dremel will cut it fine, but it will be next to impossible to mirror your mod on both halves free handed... Youll be putting the parting line in jeopardy I would make a new mold from plaster..... You could shoot the bait you like, cut the tail off and glue/melt a different tail on... Then mold it There's some good info on mold making here, most of it is way back Edited April 20, 2016 by JRammit
Travis
Pictures of the mold would be nice and more description on what exactly you are wanting to do. I wouldn't have any reservations about doing it especially on something that isn't aluminum. Dremel likely fine with the correct bit make some test passes on the back side of the mold to see if issues with chipping, melting, and overall just getting a feel for the material if you are concerned. If it is a one sided mold and you are wanting to say make a straight jerk into a fluke tail no problems, increasing the size of a paddle tail no problems, etc..... Worst case scenario you screw the mold up and chuck it... guarantee that amounts to pennies in the grand scheme of things when looking at money lost in regards to the average hobby lure maker. Les Young
Yep I'm going to attempt it on the back of the mold. If nothing else I have a budfy that is more than capable of making a mold out of some material he has already. Thanks
