mark poulson
I fished for four hours today, mid day, with a rising tide, overcast with intermittent clouds and light wind. I had half a dozen reaction fish, blades and cranks. My two best fish (3+lbs) came on my homemade whopper plopper. First plopper fish of the year, and first ones on this bait! http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/gallery/image/15445-whopper-plopper6/ Both fish ate the front treble, and then buried the tail treble in their gill plates when they turned and tried to pull the bait down. Both shallow fish, around 4' deep, out from the bank about 30' on the first ambush spot. The bait didn't get messed up in any way, even though the through wire was only .052 sst. Fun day!!!
JBlaze
Congrats to you. It is good to catch them on your own stuff or even see someone else catch them on things you have made. Me and a friend went today also. He lost a good fish on my flex arm spinnerbait and also landed one on it that weighed 3lb and 9oz. He also caught a 3lb 14oz lgmth on a jerk bait. myself, just a few slicks . John
Dink Master
Mark, good job on your bait & fish today. I will be up at the Delta in a few weeks. Fishing the FLW as a Co-Angler, what baits and what colors should I be making for the tournament? Also do you want to borrow my Do-it 6" Senko mold 4-cavity when I am up there? (Monday afternoon 5/16 - Thursday late afternoon 5/19) Just PM me. I think I have your phone number?

mark poulson
Well done Mark, as they say, a good day fishin always beats a good day at work. Pete Pete, I know that old saying. But I do miss putting on the nail bags. There is something very satisfying about doing a good day's work.

FrogAddict
Mark, First off great job! I know you have some time into that lure! My experience when I fished the original whopper plopper last year was that all the fish I caught with it had the front treble in their mouth. I wonder why that is?
mark poulson
Mark, First off great job! I know you have some time into that lure! My experience when I fished the original whopper plopper last year was that all the fish I caught with it had the front treble in their mouth. I wonder why that is? Frog, That has been my experience, too. Maybe the plopping tail orients them more toward the middle. I've only lost two fish last year on the original plopper, and I think they were on the rear treble. One was a gooood fish that ate the rear treble on my original plopper, and bent out one of the hooks on the treble. It hit the bait so hard (giant toilet flush) it scared both me and my fishing partner. It was three or four seconds of amazing pull, and then, nothing. I'd rather they eat the belly hook, and then get hooked farther down with the rear treble. Silly me. Of course, I do pay for my sins. Tuesday I threw the plopper (41 grams) hard with long casts using a 7'4" heavy frog rod for two hours, and yesterday my back reminded me of that, big time. I can fish two days in a row if I'm flipping or worming, but throwing heavy baits is a very self-limiting thing for me now. But when I grow up....
Chuck Young
These things look like a lot of fun. Makes me wish we had some muskies here in NH. We have a few pike - they might work on them. Have you considered using roller bearing swivels on the plopper?
mark poulson
They should work for any predatory fish. I make them with a through wire that is glued solid into the front section, so only the tail rotates. I haven't needed bearings. I use buzzbait rivets at each end of the tail section as bearing points, and the tails turn great. For heavier wire I use a piece of a small plastic drink stirrer straw as a liner. barrybait
Nice job Mark. Have to utilize that plopper in the club tournament coming up. It's a good bait. One of the kids on the team has their personal best on it plus it is just fun to fish and you can cover so much water because it casts like a super spook. I'm boater for a camera on the FLW tourny then boating for a high school team on Sunday's FLW high school team State Championship.
