All Eyes
Hello everyone. After lurking for quite some time, I finally decided to set up an account here. My name is John and I have been building baits for 8 years or so. I began making casting/jigging spoons out of tubing and lead, and several years ago I got into making wood crankbaits. My main focus is on walleye and bass, but have also been getting into some musky baits over the past year. Looking forward to sharing ideas and opinions with all of you great builders. I have seen several of your works through other websites, and some of you might recognize my user name from elsewhere. Here are some examples of my work. mark poulson
Those baits look great, but you need to post them in the Hard Baits Gallery, and then post a link to them here. This is a discussion forum.

Curt - NC
Hi John, Mark is correct. We have a site policy that states that photos should only be included in posts if they are used to demonstrate a specific point or technique, or ask a specific question. Photos for the sake of displaying your work can be posted in the gallery, in the proper category, and then linked to in your post. http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/gallery/ Please let me know if you have any questions about how all of this functions and I will try to help. There are also lots of other members who would be more than willing to help you too
All Eyes
Sorry about that. I have since tried to upload pictures to the hard bait gallery, but I'm getting this message Error You aren't permitted to upload this kind of file They are in jpeg format, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I will have to try again later when I have more time to mess with it.
SW Lures
You need to make it into a jpeg. You can use different sites like tinypics. You upload from your pictures and then you are prompt to use what type of format and size. Your get it, take your time. Good luck

You upload from your pictures and then you are prompt to use what type of format and size. Your get it, take your time. Good luck All of my pictures are already in the jpeg format. This site must have a limited amount of bandwidth that new users are allowed to upload. It's the only thing that would make sense. Will try again later this weekend. SW Lures
That's interesting, I have used it a lot in the past. I have a family event today but I may have time this evening to find out if I gave you the right advice. I don't use it much anymore, I could be forgetting something. It may take awhile. If anybody can help All Eyes......go for it. But your work is nice, Dale
All Eyes
I tried uploading the same photos from my original post, but it's still giving me the error message. It's only letting me upload very small file sizes, and I'm not going to edit them all.
JimP
All Eyes: Welcome to"Tackle Underground" I have been following your work on "Ohio Game Fishing" for a while and you do some great work. You got you butt spanked for posting photos in the discussion group huh. Don't feel bad it happens to almost everyone at first. It's just their way to welcome you to the group. They are really a good bunch of guys that go out of their way to help. I know you will be an asset to the group. Also, I hope you don't use the white gorilla icon on your member photo. That's scary. Thank You Jim. Much appreciated. I have been to this site many times, but never really noticed or thought about pictures in the discussion group. Whoops! I recognize others work from OGF on here also. For some reason, the gallery will not allow me to add any of the pics that I posted. Some of the talent on display here is just incredible. I could look at these custom creations all day. Lately, I have been building a lot of crankbaits. Working on more almost daily now. Glad to be a part of the group of builders and enthusiasts here. And no, I won't use the gorilla. HAHA! Just ran across that picture online many years ago and thought it was funny. Not sure why I never changed it. All Eyes
My maximum allowable upload per photo in the gallery is 2 MB. Is this same limit in place for everyone, or just for new members?

It's just their way to welcome you to the group. I think this is misunderstood.... I doubt the warnings are meant as public shaming... Probably more of a reminder for any other new members who read the post On the flip side... Many times a new member has asked a genuine question, and the only answers he or she gets is "SEARCH".... Nobody bats an eye in that situation I agree with your folliwing sentence... Great group, great bunch of guys.......... First impressions are sometimes misleading
RayburnGuy
My maximum allowable upload per photo in the gallery is 2 MB. Is this same limit in place for everyone, or just for new members? I think that's right on the size of the file that can be downloaded to TU. If you need to resize your photos, and don't want to make any changes to the original, just make a copy of the original and do any necessary editing to the copy. Welcome to TU. All Eyes
Thanks for the replies and help guys. The warning and explanation of the forum rule actually came off as very friendly. Regarding the uploads, I personally love looking at home made baits and other art, and know some others that feel the same. Just thought I would introduce myself and post some pics of what I have made. The only photo editing software on my computer is Paint, which is okay for some things, but re sizing photos changes the image size along with the file size. Any jpeg photo I have gets very small when reduced to under 2MB. There are free programs and websites out there to do it right, but I haven't messed around with it yet. For now I will just refrain from posting photos. This site will keep me plenty busy for a long time.
RayburnGuy
You should be able to resize your pics with Paint. Be sure to maintain the aspect ratio when resizing so it doesn't distort the picture. Like I mentioned above you can make duplicates of the photos you want to save and do the resizing on the copies. It's normal for the picture size to change with the file size. The picture IS the file. Paint uses a "percentage" when resizing pictures. You may have to play around with it to get a feel for it. Resize a picture and if it doesn't suit you just hit the undo button and your right back to where you started. No damage done. hope this helps, Ben

I'm old and confused and not real computer savvy. I changed and uploaded a couple of pictures, and now I need a nap. RayburnGuy
No worries All Eyes. I know all too well about being old and confused. Having played around with photo editing software a good bit before I got so old and confused helps a bit. If there's anything I can do to help feel free to holler.
