Questions About Patenting Etc

Recommended Posts

So they do charge money for a copyright, another example of how a government rapes it's citizens for something that should be a right.

Back to the point, very few things are worth patenting and I don't see the point unless it's something that will change the world. I've created some very ground breaking lures myself and I just couldn't justify the expense and effort to apply for a patent. In my case I focused all that energy and money into the product itself and made some great improvements.

You know, everyone like to complain about how Government is so intrusive in our lives, and we pay so much in taxes, but we all want safe water, safe food, safe school, safe medicine, safe streets, safe borders...that is the role we want our Government to play.  We can't rely on a for-profit company to provide those things, because we've all seen they will cut corners at our expense.

Those services are paid for with our tax dollars.

If wealthy people paid their fair share of taxes, there would be enough money for all those things without squeezing the rest of us so hard.

It used to be like that.

Simply...

Majority with unique lures they are seeking to patent have nothing unique.  Any claims they have are bogus and will easily be dispelled.

Unless you break into the tournament scene with the lure you will make little to no money.

Other option is take up large adds in magazines about you lure being banned in tournaments and make money off that crowd of believers.

You need to have the patent drawn up by a legit patent lawyer that will be honest with you about your creation.  So many patents are complete junk.

If you have a legit lure, that is the next big thing and a sound patent you will now need to have some money or a backer to pursue litigation threats and work out deals with bigger players.

Finally the taxes/government ......you both are wrong.   :lolhuh:

You know, you are right. I have no reason to complain about the US government becuase I'm not from the USA. If you feel the $35 is justified then it's all good.

My opinion about our government is very different but that is becuase our government is beyond evil and it's something very few foreigners will understand, just like it's impossible for me to understand how you guys can actually trust your government.

This is a classic example of how cultural differences and vastly different circumstances can cause misunderstandings.

I'll rather not discuss this further, becuase I came to this forum becuase fishing makes me happy and it's one of the few things that keep my mind off the political uncertainty going on. We already need bullet proof vests to go fishing in some areas becuase this country is full of savages.

There are lots of old wives tales regarding patents.

If there is a possibility of you going BIGTIME with this idea, then you will need a patent. You will need to talk to a patent attorney as soon as possible, because there are limitations as to when you can take out a patent.

If you have a patent, you also have the option to sell the idea to a large company. They will not entertain the buy without a patent.

If you have no plans for the above, then you do not require a patent.

Seek proper advice, our barrack room lawyering advice does not count.

I do agree with you Dave about a attorney for a patent. I really agree with you about selling your idea to an established company, however in my opinion you have got to be protected here also.

Well it's really beyond me and I just enjoy making the lures. As I have stated I only need my hobby to pay back for expenses. After that I'm way ahead in my opinion.

Have a great day,

Dale

Thank you everyone who provided feedback on this subject.

After discussion here and in other area's,I doubt my idea's merit patenting, so am going to push them quickly to market, along with trademarking the names used for them.

I will post some sample picture here shortly.

Here are links to a couple of the lures i have put up in the gallery.  My painting is still a little rough but it's getting better every day! :)

We have had a hard discussion and there is nothing wrong with that.

You have two interesting designs. The paint is just fine. I am my worst critic, I would say you may be the same. In time look at your first scheme and a recent scheme you will always see the earliest one being better. The reason is that you will learn if it's important to you to get better.

Good luck in everything that you are doing. Keep us informed.
