goldenshinner
What's pros of side port injection.seems like a lot of extra messing around to have multi up mold with a bunch of single injection spots.also I notice the holes are smaller than typical top injection. Bassinfool
Top inject molds are better for making laminates, but I've never had a problem getting consistent laminates with side injection molds as long as they're set up correctly. I prefer my side inject molds over my top inject simply because it's a one and done deal instead of injecting each bait individually. ipt
side inject is better IMO for 2 reasons. It's easier to vent the baits out the side rather than out the bottom. When you fill it, the glitter will settle on the outside of the bait rather than falling inward into the middle of the bait.
Painter1
I have to use sprue extenders on most of my top inject molds
Jig Man
I've never been able to get good laminates with my side injection molds.
DaveMc1
I've never been able to get good laminates with my side injection molds. I have found that if you are having problems with laminates it has more to do with not having equal pressure or temps are off. Here's something to think about, large manufacturers are able to laminate very large production molds with 25 - 200 cavities. They are laid out and function the exact same as a side injection mold, just with a lot more cavities and way longer runner.
FATFLATTIE
I have some top inject molds and they don't seem to produce as consistent of a bait under as wide a range of variables as does a side inject mold.
goldenshinner
Interesting ...seems most people agree that with multi up mold multiple side injection is a mess and a lot of Hassel.
majic man
From your response, Im not sure you got it down what the difference is. Side inject baits are laying horizontal, Top inject baits are vertical. The reason most any bait is top inject, is so you can laminate it. Swimbaits are a prime example of this.
FATFLATTIE
Also, top inject molds have an injection port for each cavity while a side inject is just one injection port for all the cavities.
majic man
No that is not accurate. Dels in particular has several top inject baits with a single port, multi cavity.
Les Young
No that is not accurate. Dels in particular has several top inject baits with a single port, multi cavity. Yes they do. I have two of the 4" shz molds with a single top port & have never had a single problem with them & i use them every time i pour. Actually the plastic draws way less in these molds as well than the other brand of mold i have. Edited July 1, 2016 by Les Young
FATFLATTIE
Thanks for the correction fellas! I even own a 4 cavity craw trailer mold oriented like that and just never thought about it being top inject.
