RayburnGuy
Hey guys, Do any of you know if anyone is still making floating tubes? I know Gene Larew made them at one time and seems like there were a couple of others that made them as well, but haven't seen any in years. thanks, Ben p.s. I've used the "packing peanut" trick to make tubes float, but the tentacles on the old floating tubes floated as well since the whole thing was filled with microspheres. They also floated up slower than tubes with the packing peanuts in them.
jonister
I was out the other day trying to fish a tube straight on a offset hook a while back. I made a good cast around a dock, and the stupid thing floated! I'm going "who needs a tube that floats?!" Then I thought about it and decided I'd keep that in the back of my mind incase it could come in handy. I would tell you what they are/we're, but they are in a clear plastic bag.. MonteSS
Would be great on a Carolina rig.
RayburnGuy
They did work well on both the Carolina rig and as a top water bait. They also worked well when fished on a Texas rig with the sinker pegged a few inches up the line or with a split shot crimped on the line. I used to fish tubes year round. Not sure why I quit fishing them as much as I once did. It's funny how we're always looking for the "latest and greatest" and seem to forget the "tried and true". Les Young
why not pour your own without salt?
RayburnGuy
I would give that a try Les, but I'm not set up to pour plastics and I can't really justify the expense of getting set up just to pour plastics for myself no matter how much I'd love to give it a try. Les Young
Ben, i understand that & it can be one expensive hobby as well. My nextt mold will probably be a hollow tube mold as i love fishing tubes myself. I bought the solid tube style mold from enforcer & it works great too. My buddy & i have caught several fish on it & we've caught 2 smallmouth over 5 lbs on it in the 2 weeks i've had it. Jig Man
I have tube molds and don't use salt when I pour. Some of mine float and some don't. I have no idea why. I use Calhoun's medium plastisol.
mickeyg
I made some floating tubes before. What type/size hook (3/0?) are you using?

Mickey it's been so long since I've fished a floating tube I'm not sure I remember what size hook. Was just thinking that if they were still available I might give them another try.
