Badhabit
Can i use any glitter I can find or is there a certain type I need to use
Bassinfool
High temp polyester glitter is what you need and is readily available online. Some craft glitter works but I would test it out before I put it in a bunch of plastic and ruin an entire batch.
Badhabit
Thanks for the info I'm goin to check the craft store now just looking to find a cheaper supply
FATFLATTIE
There is literally no need to go cheap on glitter. It is plenty cheap to start with and it lasts for ever. Just spend the money on the quality stuff from a lure making site and be done with it!
AZ Fisher
Use the search feature in this forum and you'll find out why it's best to go with the good stuff right off the bat. The previous posters gave you good info, over heat the cheap stuff and you ruined a whole batch of plastic. Use the search feature, the answers to all your ?'s is right there. MonteSS
Michaels purple is best I have found. No bleeding or curling even in reheats. And the giant bottle is like $3 with the printable 50% off coupon.
Badhabit
Funny you say that I just bought the same exact stuff works great and close to home
Les Young
I've used just about every color walmart & hobby lobby have . I put the cheap stuff in right before i shoot & have had absolutley no problems whatsoever. When i first tried it i put it some red in before heatig & it lost it's coating & turned silver. Haven't had a single problem since i started doing it this way & the effects of it along with the .40 hex high temp polyester glitter are pretty nice. AZ Fisher
Sorry, I've used that same brand of blue and that same purple and they both bled upon reheating, blueish plastic with silver glitter. I could of gotten them too hot I guess, I have a non contact thermometer so I'm pretty careful. Both Do-it and MF glitter did not bleed under the same heating conditions. Never found High Temp glitter anywhere other than a fishing supply source.
rockslide
yea the Michaels creatology purple works well. we could/should make a craft store list of glitter that work an don't work. Michaels recollections glitter works also
rixon529
I've never tried it myself, but several people over the years have mentioned on this forum a Stampendous brand glitter as a usable craft glitter widely available from Walmart, Michael's, JoAnn Fabrics, etc.
bribass
Interesting Monte! Im still on the hunt for a purple glitter that doesn't effect the plastic. Im happy with all other colors i have but purple from different suppliers just has become a headache! first 10 baits in the batch look great, then its starts to change the hue of the bait as I continue on the batch. Maybe Ill try the Michaels kind. Monte Have you done larger batches with it? Like 12+ cups ?
hpssports
I had problems with purple till I got some black grape from Lurecraft. So far it hasn't been an issue. I've been running 5 cup to gallon batches.
