Les Young
I forgot to order worm oil so what can i get at walmart that would work & not hurt the plastic or color until i get some? Thanks
DaveMc1
There really isn't one. It's a plasticizer. What do you desperately need it for?
Les Young
Dave i squirt some in the bag to lubricate my soft plastics. I don't like dry baits & neither do my buddys that get baits from me.
SRJ
I have never used it but read that cod liver oil works.
toadfrog
I have mixed a little anise 0il and WD- 40 . I had no ill result from that and it worked as good a any attractant .
alsworms
I can tell you what NOT to use: baby oil. Lesson learned the hard way on that one. Baits were stiff as a board after a couple weeks.
alsworms
Isn't baby oil mostly mineral oil? I think I've read here that mineral oil will make baits hard over time. Yup.....nailed it.
mark poulson
I have mixed a little anise 0il and WD- 40 . I had no ill result from that and it worked as good a any attractant . Toad, WD 40 is illegal to use on or in baits in CA. Don't have a clue why. It is a killer catfish bait scent.
bobv
Just spray some Bang or other fish attractant in the bag, works for me when I'm out of worm oil.

JRammit
Lot of guys use Pam to spray molds (me too)... Should work just as well in a bag Another thing on the "don't list".. Vegetable oil, also turns baits hard
mark poulson
Probably because it is a solvent LOL Funny how they took the solvents out of paint, to save the ozone, but replaced them with stuff that is toxic to people. Travis
I would just order the worm oil.... Salting the baits will keep them from sticking also or as mentioned the right scent. Not a fan of PAM as it has always ended up sticky from my experiences.
goldenshinner
Interesting thread...not all "mineral" oils same..right..some pure grades or types work without long term affects...right??.. And I thought all worm oil now sold in the US is plastizer free..otherwise packages would require hazardous handling requirements..
Baitjunkys
Incorrect. Worm oil aka plasticizer is not a hazerdous material.
R Glover
The worm oil that most suppliers sell is an essential oil, (Non scent for me) I have never figured out which one. I know there are a lot of different essential oils. If anybody knows, please share.
Baitjunkys
Incorrect, Worm oil most suppliers sell, is straight plasticizer, Either Dop, Or Dinp. Scented worm oil may have some Essential oil in it from some manufacturers.
rixon529
Worm oil is DINP (diisononyl phthalate) or DOP (dioctyl pthalate), both of which are a pthalate used as a plasticizr. I think this is a point of confusion what with all the talk of "pthalate-free platisol", etc. It has been mentioned in the past that "pthalate free plastisol" is kind of a gimmick. People want/like to hear that those bad carcinogenic pthalates are absent from the plastics used to make lures, but fail to realize that the other products that are added to the pthalate-free plastisol actually DO contain pthalates (colorant, softener, hardener, worm oil) and those products are therefore putting the pthalates back in. Baitjunkys
There is pthalate free plastizers.so that is inacurate, tho they can be added back in via colorant etc, if it is no pthalate free. Esbo Eso etc is a dop dinp substitute, which can and is used as worm oil, softner etc. But it is not a essential oil.

rixon529
Baitjunky and DaveMc1 - thank you for sharing that info. As a hobbyist only making baits for myself, I am not nearly as knowledgeable of product availability as you guys who make a business of this stuff.
