Whether or not this is within reason for a hobbyist will all depend on the hobbyist. I cut a lot of tubes in a year so for me it was a no brainer. The last year of cutting them with a hand press really took it's toll on my shoulder so just to not have pain after cutting a bunch of tubes was worth the price of the cutter.
