gliders
Hang off till weekend centigrade, think i may have cracked it using round punch on checker cut foil to produce 4 fan shape scales with each punch. Busy with some other lures at minute but will try and perfect it at weekend.
gliders
Have looked at those also, think they could work. I was hoping for something i could peel and stick but might try applying very thin punched nail foil scales onto 1st clear coat over paint then remaining clear coats over all. gliders
Centigrade, here are oval holo scales punched from nail foil 8 or 16 at a time by folding over then placing between 2 bits of paper and using punch in picture. I squeezed desired size cutter in vise easily to oval.hope helps.
mark poulson
If you get lazy, like me, you can use nail polish with holographic glitter: https://www.google.com/search?q=holographic+glitter+nail+polish&newwindow=1&tbm=isch&imgil=lGfLEvDVvwcRpM%253A%253BQ4ag9H8YZkf7LM%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwheretoget.it%25252Flook%25252F64346&source=iu&pf=m&fir=lGfLEvDVvwcRpM%253A%252CQ4ag9H8YZkf7LM%252C_&usg=__rdE6On6j0E3vVTMbPDMnPhjfOEo%3D&biw=1600&bih=866&dpr=0.9&ved=0ahUKEwidwa3GgJ_QAhVW3WMKHdz-AAEQyjcIeg&ei=X9UkWN2VCta6jwPc_YMI#q=holographic%20glitter%20nail%20polish&tbm=isch&tbs=rimg%3ACTpO3jEcaRT4IjhuAjU9AEdvzD6IDy5MkteHSxc6XWSzazgANL1AVUKqCjG6sKQ119Cd2xYHOq7U8rTTHdKrDWbuFCoSCW4CNT0AR2_1MERjCfFMpK9zTKhIJPogPLkyS14cRiG0H1Qx2DRQqEglLFzpdZLNrOBEtU8yG8MZW6ioSCQA0vUBVQqoKERjCfFMpK9zTKhIJMbqwpDXX0J0R0baU2B_1gCxsqEgnbFgc6rtTytBHdeQn--thrjyoSCdMd0qsNZu4UERjCfFMpK9zT
SW Lures
I've been following this thread and have been working on soming close. I think it's a technique I'll throw out there. I put luffa over a sealed blank then over spray a base coat, then I remove the luffa. This leaves a raised scale look. I pat the paint down lightly to just make the scales semi even/smooth. Heat set it and let the paint completely dry. Then I attached leaf (copper) and take a cotton ball and get the leaf to form to the scale pattern. I've been doing this raised scale for awhile now. To me it gives the bait a texture/depth, not just a smooth surface. This is where I have stop, I'm waiting on some candy paint. The scales look pretty good and I think the candy paint or ink could give that look. Just throwing it out there, Dale Edited November 10, 2016 by DaleSW
Chuck Young
You can paint a scale pattern over the applied holographic tape. Apply a scale netting - something thick like a bath sponge. Make it tight. Then spray your lure from an extreme forward angle. You get a graduated scale image. light in front, dark in back. It also works well on a 3d foil scale pattern (without the mesh). The picture is candy black over white. Sorry about the photo quality. My camera is a piece of junk. Basseducer
Lucky Craft also has one called Laser Dots Transfer Decals. I have one package left, but the original UPC is unreadable. May try contacting Lucky Craft on Monday.
RayburnGuy
Lucky Craft also has one called Laser Dots Transfer Decals. I have one package left, but the original UPC is unreadable. May try contacting Lucky Craft on Monday. I may be wrong, but it seems like I remember reading that Lucky Craft doesn't offer those anymore. Would be worth checking though. gliders
Centigrade, came up with another option as pictured, sketch shows process enlarged. Only had small diameter brass tube handy but can be any size, stuck in drill to sharpen. You could put handle on ,but without you can look down tube for alignment. Used adhesive backed foil i had handy and scored to backing with scalpel then aligned cutter and tapped with mallet=4 perfect wee fan shape scales! Sounds fiddly but actually easy, hope helps.
gliders
I think the ovals may look better depending on pattern, also if I'm going to try on a lure i will maybe go for a more pearlescent than holographic foil.
gliders
You could also start with small squares and punch off corners with leather punch to achieve fan shapes...........or do what mark suggested !
stretcher66
Not sure if this is on the right track, but the spro little john DD in citrus shad may be something of interest of what your looking for in the scale effect. http://img.tacklewarehouse.com/watermark/rs.php?path=SLJDD-CSD-1.jpg

gliders
Centigrade, cheap leather punch ,put the first 1/4 inch of desired size in vice and squeeze gently to oval, easy and works well. Keep us updated and i will also if i take it further. I think the pattern it is used on will determine overall effect. I dont use clear blanks so am thinking for me it may be nice over silver foil. Cheers.
gliders
Hey centigrade, if you are still waiting on bit's and bobs and still looking to do holo scales, i done a couple of experimental patterns while doing a small batch of other lures. If it's of any use to you I will post tomorrow evening. I dont use transparent blanks so won't be exactly what your after. I fancied them on foiled pattern though ,so done a couple of simple foiled patterns to try method and get impression of effect. On turner at moment and the scales really do catch the eye. If still interested let me know and i will post tomorrow evening with method i used. Also I'm not sure if it's o.k to show pic's here because it illustrates the subject, I deliberately made the 2 patterns simple and spartan just in case, however I have no problem if someone would advise they should go in gallery .regards,glider. RayburnGuy
As long as a picture adds to the topic at hand there isn't a problem posting it in a thread Gliders. It sounds like this one will be just fine. Ben

gliders
Here are a couple holo scale prototypes centigrade, My aim was a knocked about scale look. Didn't go overboard on scales because I didn't want over garish effect. Also not easy to capture full holo effect in picture, but even with just a few they really catch the eye, just like you often see ,particularly on slightly wounded/stunned prey fish. Achieved the look I was after and hopefully some food for thought.........regards glider.
