MarkNY
What size SS wire works best for twisting my own line ties/screw eyes? I tried it with .042 but it didn't work too well. Thanks, Mark
Travis
I use 19 gauge from the local hardware or order from McMaster Carr (0.041 302/304 stainless down to .032 or so for smaller baits) for most all my bass baits. A lot of threads on this topic. In your address bar type tackleunderground, line tie, wire gauge, etc... and many will come up and you can add additional search criteria based on what you are wanting to do. (musky, thru wire, McMaster Carr, welding rod, wire benders, and countless other terms). I Edited January 10, 2017 by Travis
MarkNY
Thanks Travis. I'll order some lighter gauge wire. Mark
SW Lures
I use .030 TIG welding rod. I tried that size that did. It's to heavy as you know now. I still use it at times. I've been making inline spinners too. This .030 works well for them and the .042 works well in arm style spinners. These just don't distort, which I like. BobP
What wire size is best depends on the type of wire you order. I use soft temper stainless wire for all of my hangers/line ties and the .041" size works great for that. Easy to bend accurately with hand tools and it's plenty strong enough for bass baits. If you're bending .042" hard temper stainless, that's a whole 'nother thing.
