stumpjumper16
I have used CS one part finish coat for some time now and not happy with durability. I paint my spinnerbait and jig heads with vinyl coat. I thought about using CS epoxy, but wanted to see what other guys here use on there baits for durability. Any input would be appreciated. cadman
I would say that my first go to finish for jigs would be Devcon 2 ton. My second choice would be E-tex (Envirotex lite). Devcon is hard when it cures, however it has a slight amber tone to it , which is not a problem on every color except white. For white jigs I use E-tex, which is crystal clear. You mentioned you paint your jigs and spinnerbaits with vinyl coat is that the CS paint? If so you may want to wait a day or two for the vapors to fully flash off, as I don't know if Devcon 2 ton or E-tex is compatible with vinyl paint. I'm guessing you will not have a problem but check it out and let us know. Edited January 24, 2017 by cadman
Apdriver
I've had great results using KBS Coatings, Diamond Clear. It's an MCU but it keeps well. I enjoy the working time of it as opposed to D2T. It will tend to out gas just a bit but this is eliminated by just a couple drops of xylene in the mix. Recently, I added some UV powder to it before application and it worked very well. For some applications I also add some flexcoat iridescent and this turns out well also. It's crystal clear and I usually use two coats. Have had no yellowing. Here's a pic of some Spinnerbait heads I recently topcoated with it.
LimpNoodle
I've been using Solarez UV for about a year. I've been very pleased with the results.
stumpjumper16
The vinyl paint is from component systems. I knew a guy that used to coat all of his baits with a 2 part epoxy. I may have to try d2t for my jigs and go with e-Tex on the spinnerbaits. I usually let my jig heads and spinnerbait heads cure for a week or2 since I do most of my painting in winter in my garage with only a space heater. It's more time consuming with vinyl, but the pay off is worth it. I've got baits that have indentations from hitting rock that the paint has flexed and not cracked. Thanks for all the advice.
