dr.olds
I'm having trouble filling the last inch of the tail on my latest mold . It is vented at the tip but minimally. I was thinking of adding a small runner from the bidy to the tail as drawn in black .or would more venting be th answer. What do you guys think ? Baitjunkys
how you clamping it?
RSNeely
wouldn't that black line push more air into the tail? If you were to make a alteration, vent to the cutouts leaving the mold.
dr.olds
I'm clamping with c clamps. I was looking at the rage tail Anacondas and they have that secondary runner. I'll vent the tail more at the tip and see how it works.
Baitjunkys
how tight are you clamping? im guessing you clamping it down tight. try clamping tight enuff so it dont fkash only. you can squeeze a .002 vent off with c clamps. the tail is vented to a hole. your added vent isnt gonna accomplish anything imo. Baitjunkys
when a mold is not vented well. it takes longer to get the plastic thru the cavity as well, thin long tails tend to cool faster. and most of the time solidify before it ever gets to the end. you could use more vents but out the sides of the tail vs venting the body to the tail as drawn. Baitjunkys
Just my opinion, may not be worth anything to you.
dr.olds
That looks good. I will cut them tomorrow. Thanks Noel
Baitjunkys
Try loosening up first, i got a 10" worm that if clamped to tight does same thing.
dr.olds
Ok .will do. The existing vent at the tail is only 1/16 wide and .0015 deep.
Frank
If you use a utility knife to cut vent you will never clamp it hard enough to cut them off. It is quick and leaves a line that will never flash. Works better than any other method I have used. And it does not look ugly when done.
dr.olds
Thanks for all the help and advice. I vented the hell out of the tail and opened up the gates a bit more.It shoots great now Now I have to wait for spring to fish them. Thanks again Noel
uttexas
Glad you got it to work well. I wear long sleeves, a full mask, long heat resistant gloves, goggles, etc when pouring (I look like someone in Hazmat gear). I have a 10 inch curl tail worm mold that I have to turn vertically immediately after injecting for the tail to fill 100%. I would NOT attempt this maneuver without full protective gear.
