rixon529
Porkmeatballs - Take the time to go back a couple years and read every post in this forum. It may sound tedious as hell, but you'll gain a TON of info and probably learn things you haven't even thought about yet. I know I'm a little crazy but I've done it, like, three times. Last time was about three years ago, so its about time I do it again, too. This stuff never gets old to me... Rick
porkmeatballs
Sometimes it's a little difficult to find information on some topics, but yeah, I'll keep looking! Thanks Rick!

It seemed like the plastisol pulled in on itself... How much of a sprue did you give yourself, as the plastic cools it draws from the sprue and if it is not of adequate size it can make the bait contract in on itself
porkmeatballs
I made the sprue hole much larger on my second mold. This seemed to fix the problem! I made a resin harness to balance the bait, and now it swims pretty well! Thanks TU for helping me through this process. If you want to see my swimbait, I posted it in the soft plastic contest gallery. I'll continue to tweak my bait.

porkmeatballs
It's been a while! So far I've been making different soft swimbaits and coloring them with Alumilite's alumidust. A friend says that I can use his airbrush so that I can do more realistic paint jobs on my baits, but what should I use for the clear coat? porkmeatballs
It is necessary to protect the paint after you airbrush a soft bait, right?

If you are using Spike It's SB Coat then no it is not necessary.
porkmeatballs
How about just regular airbrushing paint?
DaveMc1
It won't bond to the plastic. Do yourself a favour and get the proper paint to do the job you want to do. It's not that expensive comes in 4oz containers.
porkmeatballs
So the SB coat can be brushed on/airbrushed and it doesn't need a clear coat? I may have to try that stuff out. Sounds interesting...

I'm not sure about brushing it but with an airbrush absolutely Remember, it is a solvent based paint and you will need to be in a well ventilated area and wear a respirator
