Les Young
I just ordered a quart of heat stabilizer from lurecraft so i can reheat some of my older sprue. As far as new fresh plastisol goes would it be reccomended to add some to each gallon jug that i have on hand? Also how much per gallon would be good with this brand if doing it this way to get multiple reheats? Thanks
Flippinstick Mike
In my experience most plastisol is ready to use. No stabilizer needed. When I re heat I no longer use it very often. I cut up my old plastic to smaller pieces and heat in small bursts. ( 2 min or less intially to get most of it soft, then less than a min Burts with lots of stirring / mixing in between. Heat stabilizer can yellow to some degree and alter your colors. I'm not as advanced as other members, but this has worked for me.
alsworms
Agree with Flippinstick. I used to keep a gallon or so set aside with stabilizer for constant reheats, but for the most part it's not necessary IMO.
Les Young
I usually only heat fresh plastic for 1.5 minutes. How do you prevent sprue from getting darker when remelting as some of mine do it pretty bad. Also spikeits violet 193 is the worst color i've saw for turning red & sometimes very bright red even when heating fresh plastic for 1.5 minutes . Would stabilizer help or how would i be able to avoid it happening? Thanks
alsworms
Stabilizer will definitely help, but keep in mind small amounts. If too much, it will yellow your plastic and the stuff stinks pretty bad.
