Remy52
I've just started with these and I'm struggling with holding them during the painting process. With the bristle brush tail I haven't come up with a way to keep them held and still paint the tail. Any input would be greatly appreciated. SW Lures
I true my trying to understand what your problem is, a bait or just a tail. A picture would be helpful. I have some idea's if it the tail only. You have to have a glue in area I would think. That's where to look at. Like using two pieces of wood clamped down to hold. At that point you can vise it down. If it's the bait I know how to. Dale Edited March 15, 2017 by DaleSW Typo
Remy52
DaleSW I've rigged up a clamp and turnbuckle that looks like it's going to work. I'll get some pictures tomorrow and attach them. I'd still like some other options. I like the idea of hot glue but I'm just not seeing it. I'd like to hold it so I can paint this tail, but then I have the issue of what clear to apply. I may actually try some Spike it instead of paint. May not have to apply clear then. AZ Fisher
These are what I use for multi-segmented baits and it should work for the bait your working with. Take the mag glass off and add a third gator clamp and you're rolling. http://www.harborfreight.com/helping-hands-60501.html Edited March 16, 2017 by AZ Fisher
Remy52
Thanks for the input on this swimbait issue. I have come up with a turn buckle and clamp that seems to be working well for me see the attached. It hasn't been cleared yet.

SW Lures
Looks like your doing fine, very nice work. Yep the helping hands work well, but Ben gave me one better for swim baits if the tail is fitted with a hook only. I modified it a bit tho. I made a jig for painting that I use a rubber band to keep the bait taught while painting. That is a difficult looking bait for that way. Remy52
What I have come up with is a jig that I use a set of forceps on the tail end and a small turn buckle on the eye. It allows me to tension the bait between the two and with the jig a turntable I just soon it back and forth for the opposite side.
Reddrumhunter
If I may ask--how are you getting the fiber tail into the bait?? Casting it in?? or are you splitting the tail section after casting, putting the tail in, and re-gluing??
Remy52
The blanks actually come with the fiber tail, so I don't have to worry myself with that process. There are a couple suppliers for the bullnose. One is http://avidbasstackle.com the other one I have found is Shelts. I purchase a lot of my blanks from Avid, good service nice blanks reasonably priced,
