Joelh831
Hey guys so I started to do open pour swimbaits. But I'm haveing an annoying issue. I get a tone of half bubbles/ dimples/indentations all around the bait. The mold is clean and super smooth on the inside. What's causing this. Thanks
mark poulson
What type of mold are you using?
Baitjunkys
Please post a picture of the mold as well a good close up off the cavity, Leonard
Joelh831
It's a open pour silicon using alumilite I'll take a close up of the inside but I've felt it and theirs no indentation in it it's really smooth.
BHLures
Too much release spray will do that. Are you using anything like a umr spray or worm oil to lube the mold?
Joelh831
I'm not using anything just straight from the microwave stirring it up then I let it sit till about 330 degrees and pour right into the mold I don't heat up the mold or use any oils or sprays
Baitjunkys
Did you degass the alumalite prior to, If there is a bunch of air bubbles under the surface maybe they are expanding with the heat from the plastic.
Joelh831
I didn't. Honestly I don't even know how to do that or what that is. am I supposed to do something to the plastisol as well. I just shake the heck out of it and heat it up add color and flake and straight to the mold
Anglinarcher
I really think your mixing air bubbles into the plastic. Degassing the silicone when making the mold is not necessary.
Baitjunkys
The master has spoken, even tho you told me on the phone, the plastic was crystal clear.
Joelh831
Yea i tried heating up the mold prior to pouring to about 160-170 and it did help out. Another thing I noticed was I did have some air bubbles in the plastisol but I remelted the one I was using last night. What's the best way to mix it without introducing air into the mix or how do I let it sit so the can come up to the top without it cooling down to much to where I can pour it anymore thanks
Baitjunkys
Slow. that is the key.

Been there done that. These guys will help you figure it out for sure. Edited March 28, 2017 by Les Young
