Oh well, Jeannie is blowing into these parts sometime tomorow or Monday so I won't get to use them anyways!!! Can you believe how impatient a guy can be for FREE baits??? The quantities aren't really exact, but they're a good starting point. Watch out though, don't get that stuff on you or you'll be smelling like it for a while. Kick'n'Bass Anise and Shad 50%Lurecraft Garlic oil 20%Lurecraft Crawfish oil. 20%Worm Oil 10%I was messing around with different scents and seeing what caught fish, etc... I decided that if they are gonna be attracted to one kind of scent, why not give em a nice cocktail. That stuff has been working pretty good here. I put it on the baits after pouring mainly because Chris (Al's Worms) had a nice story about mixing raw plasitisol with BANG and having it live up to it's name when heated. My wife got fed up and called the main post office complaint line. They told her that there was so many complaints that they would get back with her on a later date. I know you almost always have to cut those envelopes open too, they're the pre-glued kind. Maybe Kidlizard's postman is a closet bass fisherman? I'll handle the pouring chores asap. Now I have a reason to slip out of work for a while (been helping pull cable for new hospital wing and closet ) and get some fishing done!!! I'm already showing preference to the metallic green. Today I'll be hitting a few small ponds and then over the weekend will run a couple lakes and maybe the river. After Jeanne and all the dirty water, the bite should be a little tough but these slithers should be just the ticket. I'll be letting everyone know something tonight!!!! D.J. Posted October 1, 2004 Report Share Posted October 1, 2004 I was finally able to launch the boat this last Sunday. I used the baby Slither exclusively for the first part of the day. I had excellent results with one smallmouth going 4.5lbs and a couple in the 3lb range. I also caught several smaller fish as well. The big fish came on the smokey blue shad color. I used every color I was given with fish being caught on all of them. I only caught one on the junebug, but I have never had much luck on the lake I was fishing with this color for smallmouth, only largemouth. After all is said and done, I have to say great job on these baits. Quality stuff Thanks again for the offer to fish these. I love using new baits. GB GONE Posted October 1, 2004 Report Share Posted October 1, 2004 First a picture of the 3" slithers that Big Z sent...Excuse the photo, my camera is not the best, definitely doesn't due the baits justice. (In soft bait photo area.) Fished a local pond that is anywhere from 1 to 8ft deep. Here's the conditions, etc. Sunny with a few clouds, 83 degrees. West wind about 5 MPH. Water was stained (muddy with all the water running here) with about 1 ft visibility. Water temp was 75 degrees. Fished near downed trees and on the edge of the "deep" hole. Rigged baits on a #1 gamakatsu drop shot hook, 3/8 oz weight and 12lb Berkley Vanish leader with 14# Fireline. First cast with a Junebug rigged, the bait didn't make it to the bottom. A 3lb 4oz toad. I caught 10 fish on 12 baits in less than 30 minutes. Nothing big with the first fish being the biggest. This pond is not known for big fish anyways. I did have to give a couple baits away as nobody else was catching anything. I fished a 7" worm also with no luck and some senko and did catch a few dinks. In all, I will probably star drop shotting more often, especially with quality baits like those sent by Big Z. I will post my results from Lake Seminole on monday as I still have almost half of my baits left. I did keep some fish to eat and posted a picture as well (in soft bait photo area). bassgreg Posted October 2, 2004 Report Share Posted October 2, 2004 Well I tried the 3" slithers in our club contest on Lake Whatcom. Weather was a little foggy in the morning with sun breaks by the afternoon, Temp were 57-72, water temp was 65. I Drop shotted them in 18-25ft of water. I was working them around rocky humps . I also fish them around pilings in 20-35ft of water. Lost some nice fish on the pilings when they would wrap themselves around them . My medlight Avid rod was no match for them, but my motto is hook them first then deal with getting them to the boat!! Caught fish on all the colors except the junebug! Best fish was a 4.65lbs , with the total limit just under 14lbs. I did win $70 for big fish!! Thanks Big Z for the chance to test your baits!! I will be going over to Banks Lake on Nov 6th to fish the Frostbite Tourny, with below 30 temps and occasional snow !! But the fishing is great!! We went to a buddy's 5 acre pond, water temp was 75, sunny with scattered clouds, 70 degrees with 5-10 mph winds out of the north. The depth runs from 1-5 feet. This was actually my first time to try drop shotting. WOW! I'm HOOKED, on drop shot rigs, and especially these baits. I started hooking fish my first cast, and the 2nd fish was 2-5. Not bad for this pond at all. I caught fish on all 4 colors, the fish weren't preferential to any particular color, but all colors worked great. We fished from 3:30 pm to 7 pm. The fish turned off at 6:30, but at 6:45 my wife caught the big fish of the day at 3-12. Again, pretty good for this pond this time of year. In all we caught about 3 DOZEN fish in 3 hours, so you can see why I'm sold. I forgot my flippin' camera, put it on the couch and didn't grab it. Everytime we forget the camera is when we catch bigger fish. My question to BigZ is, can i order this mold now? Or when will it be available? I didn't see it on the web site, so do I need to call him? I told my wife I was ordering this mold, and she just nodded with a big grin on her face. Thanks Z, you've got a winner. Looks easy to pour and I know first hand the results of this Big Z creation!! Jim PS If you don't drop shot because you thought it was only for deeper water, check out the October 2004 Bassmaster article on drop shotting shallows!! BigZ Posted October 5, 2004 Author Report Share Posted October 5, 2004 OK, maybe I am just a big ham fisted thug (most likely), but I'd rather pour the bigger Slither than the little one. Maybe it's because I don't posess the greatest manual dexterity. The best way to pour this bait is backwards from what I normally do, fill the body first and work toward the tail. Normally it's the other way around, tail to head, but I overpour a lot doing the tails first in the thin part of the mold. Using a lee pot and pouring head to tail my problems went away.
