Automotive Clear Help

Recommended Posts

Don't use auto clear myself but several who do favor various brands that are two part urethanes with a high percentage of solids.  They contain isocyanates so remember to wear rated protective equipment if you go that route.  Auto painters wear space suits for good reason.

I had a friend who painted custom kitchen hoods for a sheet metal shop, using two-part  catalyzed auto paints.  He was able to achieve really stunning effects, and his custom finished hoods sold for a lot of money.

He never used any protection, and wound up dying young from leukemia.  It may not have been the cause, but he was otherwise healthy, so I'm sure it didn't help.

When the paint industry removed the hot solvents, like lacquer thinner, from paint, in order to stop the ozone hole in the atmosphere, the catalyzed  paints they came up with were safer for the environment, but not for the people using them.
