NEWBIE mold making

Recommended Posts

ok, i want to get in to making molds on the cheap for now.

i want to re-create a plastic lure that i use way to many of to cut costs.

can someone get me a detailed description of how to go from copying the original plastic, to turning that into a working mold?

i have no idea what certain mold making supplies cost either, so if anyone can tell me that it would be great!

Do it this way, in order (I think)...

  • Click TU Search
    Click Search Forums
Type in your keyword(s) "Ie RTV Mold or Plaster molds, etc..."
Check the "Search For All Terms" radio button.
Change the field in the Forum dropdown dialogue to read "Soft Plastics"
    Hit the Search Button!

Hope this helps. Z

I have a step-by-step cookbook on how to produce a one or two part plaster mold.

The easiest copies to make are grubs and plastic worms. Creature baits are a challenge, but not worth the effort, the same as hula grubs and most lizards.

I've also been able to take parts of soft plastics and create totally new designs and profiles and then mold them. Hard models are difficult to get out of plaster, especially clay, but with enough lube, it's doable.

E-mail me if you want the word doc. sent.

I haven't had any trouble removing masters (clay) from plaster and water puddy molds. I just remove them before they are fully set. I usually end up up putting a small imperfection in the nose but it easily patched in a few seconds. I just seal the clay mold with finger nail polish then apply vaseline.
