porkmeatballs
My soft plastic swimbaits have "opaque" and cloudy sides when they come out of the mold... How can I fix this? I did search for more info on this topic, but I only found one thread that was slightly helpful. I'm using a silicone mold if that helps. AZ Fisher
If it's a aluminum mold you might try this. Sorry just saw you said silicone, my bad. Edited April 14, 2017 by AZ Fisher
mark poulson
Coating the mold with spray PAM might help. A light coat, or the baits will come out slimey.
porkmeatballs
I'll try that, Mark. Is this a permanent fix or do I have to keep spraying it?
Slammingjack
I have got some silicone molds from lurecraft that were new and had the sides like that. They replaced them. Said were made a long time ago. I used worm oil , it did help somewhat.

Slammingjack
Worm oil is used to keep baits from drying out.
porkmeatballs
Oh so it's kind of like that scent stuff that you spray on your baits?
Slammingjack
Only if you put it in a spray bottle. Just use a few drops in a bag of baits or a few drops to coat a silicone mold.
alsworms
I used a Q-tip to evenly distribute the worm oil in the cavity........sometimes just my finger if I was lazy. lol
porkmeatballs
Sounds good! I think I have a bit of that stuff lying around. I'll have to find it.
mark poulson
Is scent just worm oil with "flavor" added?
porkmeatballs
I have no idea... All i got is that scent stuff in the spray bottle.
McLuvin175
Its not a good idea to be using straight worm oil as a mold release. It can actually make the baits sticky on the surface or stick to a mold more so than normal. Softener would probably work better than worm oil if those are your two options.
Landry
Pam works just fine. I use the garlic spray. Works great.

Seems that all of Lure Craft and MF scents are worm oil with scent added. Scents like Pro Cure and Upper Hand are their own mixtures. Anyone in the "know," please correct me if I'm wrong.

I was assuming the mold was okay and he just wanted to get rid of the dull look.........which is a common problem with silicone molds. I never had any problems using worm oil in those molds. Just a thin layer will work and needs to be repeated after every half dozen pours or so.
porkmeatballs
I just tried using some vegetable oil/Pam, and it kind of worked. Am I not using enough oil?
Baitjunkys
If its a essential mold, it is not gonna due any good. you have to do the paint trick on those.
porkmeatballs
Baitjunkys, can you explain that a bit?
Baitjunkys
The essential molds are rough, your not gonna cure it with liquid. The video above is the cover up for it...
porkmeatballs
Oh I'm actually using a silicone mold not an aluminum one.
